There are two things needed: an RSS feed and an RSS aggregator or reader. The RSS feed comes from an RSS-supported website. There are also websites that provide a list of RSS feeds of different websites. An RSS aggregator is used to read the RSS feed from the source website. It scans and collects data on latest RSS feeds from the worldwide web.

An aggregator comes in two forms: a downloadable program also known as desktop aggregator and an online or web-based aggregator. Downloadable aggregators may require payment before they can be acquired, while internet-based aggregators are usually free of charge. All you need to do is to register an account then you are ready to use their services. Both versions allow you to customize or choose which RSS feeds to enter. Paid aggregators are usually chosen by more experienced users and they usually allow more freedom in customizing feeds.

Problems adding rss feeds to my yahoo feedburner solution

In the last few weeks, adding feeds to My Yahoo has been next to impossible. Here’s a solution that worked for me with a feedburner feed.

Why Won’t It Add My Feed

If you have a blog, adding it to My Yahoo via a feed is a fairly standard option. To do this, you simply accessed your My Yahoo page, clicked “add content”, click “add RSS by url” and then entered your feed. At least it used to be that way.

For the last few weeks, the add content provision for My Yahoo has developed a glitch. Following the above steps simply no longer works. Instead, My Yahoo will show you a preview of your feed, but refuses to actually add it to the My Yahoo page. Why is it My Yahoo will show you a preview, but not add the feed? This realization is followed by an combination of the following: banging head on the desk…rebooting computer…throwing computer…

Feedburner Solution for My Yahoo

Last night, I was able to add http://feeds. feedburner. com/BtrTaxRelief to My Yahoo through feedburner. com. Here’s how I did it.

First, log into and pull up a My Yahoo page. Next, pull up feedburner. com in a second window. Log in to your account. In the resulting page, you should see a clickable title for your feed. To the immediate left of the title is an “xml” link in light grey. Click it to open a new window.

In the resulting window, you will see a light blue box followed by your feed. In the blue box near the bottom, you should see a “My Yahoo” button. Click it.

At this point, your My Yahoo add content page should appear with a preview of how the page will look in My Yahoo. This will be the same preview you were shown when trying to add the feed the traditional way. Go ahead and click the “add content” button on the top right of the page. You should see a page showing the preview and a message that it has been added.

Once you’ve done this, it takes up to 10 minutes for the feeds to appear on My Yahoo. I can’t promise this will work for everyone, but I was able to add three feeds last night.

To the uninitiated RSS is the buzzword but what is it?

RSS is a family of web feed formats, specified in XML (Extensible Mark-up Language) and used for Web syndication. RSS is used by (among other things) news websites, weblogs and podcasting.

Web feeds provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content, and other metadata. (Literally data that describes other data)

RSS, in particular, delivers this information as an XML file called an RSS feed, webfeed, RSS stream, or RSS channel. In addition to facilitating syndication, web feeds allow a website's frequent readers to track updates on the site using an aggregator. (A type of software that retrieves syndicated Web content )

It can be a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites, and personal weblogs.

But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into small items and can be syndicated via RSS, anything that has any kind of content makes an interesting RSS feed. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

RSS-aware programs, called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favourite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds

How can I receive RSS feeds?

There are several ways of receiving RSS feeds, but the technology is moving forwards and adapting very quickly. The main method is to download a program called a 'News Reader'. You can then set up this program to receive RSS information from whatever websites you wish that offer it, and browse headlines and story summaries that link through to the full story on the website.

This article will deal with Channel Main Elements. The next article will deal with Channel sub-elements more specifically the "image" element. Well the code works like this. language-code = primary-code ( "-" subcode ) So if you were writing in English from the United States your code would be: en-usYou do not need the subcode. "en" would be enough. (If you need a langauge code table try: http://www. purplepages. ie/RSS/netscape/languages. html or some two letter codes are: fr (French), de (German), it (Italian), nl (Dutch), el (Greek), es (Spanish), pt (Portuguese), ar (Arabic), he (Hebrew), ru (Russian), zh (Chinese), ja (Japanese), hi (Hindi), ur (Urdu), and sa (Sanskrit). So our next line will read: en-us (Remember the "-us" is purely optional.) Now we come to the "last build date". Again the reason for this is simple. To let search engines and users know when was the last time you updated the file. However, here too, there are some caveates. You must follow specifications on Dates. Let us remain simple here. Each Day & Month is represented by a 3 letter character, as follows: Days: * Mon * Tue * Wed * Thu * Fri * Sat * Sun Months: * Jan * Feb * Mar * Apr * May * Jun * Jul * Aug * Sep * Oct * Nov * Dec Now as to time, well let us not get complicated. We can use GMT, EST, CST, MST, PST etc. Most RSS feeds will prefer to use the GMT as it is basically universal and can be checked on the internet fairly simply. So finally our date will look like this: Sun, 4 Dec 2005 23:00:00 GMT Okay before we end the BASIC aspects of the Channel description let us just include some of the other possiblities here (the last three are real technical so we will leave them out of our feed.) 1. pubDate this is along the same syntax as our lastbuilddate and just tells people when you publish the file. Usually used for newspapers and the like to flip automatically each day. 2. managingEditor - this is the email address for person responsible for content of the feed. So here we would put: [email protected] com (Randy Pandy) 3. webMaster - this the email address for the person responsible for technical issues relating to channel. So here we would put: [email protected] com (Pandy Randy) 4. category - This is used to specify one or more categories that the channel belongs to. So here we may put: "E-commerce" 5. generator This is A string indicating the program used to generate the channel. 6. skipHours A hint for aggregators telling them which hours they can skip. 7. skipDays A hint for aggregators telling them which days they can skip. One of the most popular features of Internet portals, websites, pages and even emails is a frame that features an organized list of news headlines and periodic updates from other web sources. Really Simple Syndication, formerly “Rich Site Summary” or simply, RSS makes this possible.

Most users visit a lot of websites whose content continually change, such as news sites, community organization or professional association information pages, medical websites, product support pages, and blogs. As Internet surfing became an intrinsic part of business and leisure, it became important to get rid of the very tedious task of repeatedly returning to each website to see updated content.

RSS easily distributes information from different websites to a wider number of Internet users. RSS aggregators are programs that use RSS to source these updates, and then organize those lists of headlines, content and notices for easy reading. It allows computers to automatically retrieve and read the content that users want, then track changes and personalize lists of headlines that interests them.

The specially made computer programs called “RSS aggregators” were created to automatically find and retrieve the RSS feeds of pre-selected internet sites on behalf of the user and organize the results accordingly. (RSS feeds and aggregators are also sometimes referred to as "RSS Channels" and "RSS Readers".)

The RSS aggregator is like a web browser for RSS content. HTML presents information directly to users, and RSS automatically lets computers communicate with one another. The website will register the feed as an RSS document, with a listed directory of appropriate RSS publishers.

An RSS feed is composed of website content listed from newest to oldest. Each item usually consists of a simple title describing the item along with a more complete description and a link to a web page with the actual content being described. : Feed blaster is software that automaticly post your ad to hundreds of RSS feeds. The cost is $50 and it is a pretty good deal. I have been using it for about six months now. Though it hasn't resulted in the flood of traffic that the website claims it does give my site a noticable traffic boost. The size of the boost depends on the keyword phrase, but almost every phrase I have tried results in some increased traffic. It is not permanent however and I have to use the feed blaster three or four days a week. A brief aside. For my dating sites, the more vulger and pornographic my keyword phrase the more hits I get from feed blaster. I won't even try to guess why. The more simple minded my marketing phrase the more hits I get. For instance "money, money, moeny" and "easy money online" result in more hits than "Earn income online" does. Play around with differnt phrases. Don't be afraid to have some fun. The program is very easy to use. Simply type in your ad and save it. Them click "OK". The screen defaults to the first ad on your list so be sure to check that the correct ad is high lighted before clicking "OK". Then type in your keyword phrase and click "Find Feeds". You can post to a max of 500 feeds. The default is 100. I don't know why. I always post to the max of 500 feeds. Why would anyone want to choose fewer than the max? Last you click "Submit Your Ad" and " then "Start". Thats it. Let the program post your ad. It doesn't slow down your system or interfere with anything. In fact I'm posting as I type this article. Most of the time I let it run and go watch TV, but that's just me. I get a kick out of the fact that I'm watching a movie and advertising my website at the same time. Drawbacks. You can only post one ad at a time. There is no way, that I have found, to select multiple ads. There is no pause. If you stop the posting you have to start over from number 1. There is no way to know if your ad was accepted. Except the traffic you recieve of course. As I said the program defaults to the first ad on your list, so you can't tell which ad was the last submitted. I never remember to write down which one I'm submitting and probably double and triple post more than I realize. All in all Feed Blaster is a good investment. It won't skyrocket you to instant online marketing success, but what product will?
