Well actually, linking isn't fun at all. In fact, it's quite tedious. Seeking, responding to requests and adding links takes time and effort. But, if you're not actively building links the RIGHT way you are going to be left behind. In other words, your site will be "Lost in Cyberspace". The plain fact is Google, and to a lesser extent, other important search engines, reward sites with links from relevant and important pages.

If you want your site to deliver lots of targeted search engine traffic (and who doesn't?) there are two equally important factors:

1) lots of keyword-rich, search engine friendly content

2) lots of relevant, incoming links from the RIGHT sources

For real success you need to cover BOTH of these strategies. Don't concentrate on one and not the other.

So, how do you go about building your links? It's not rocket science, but as I said, it does take time and effort. From my own experiences, here's what you should do:

1) Download and install the Google Toolbar:

http://toolbar. google. com/

This will show you the PageRank of the page you are viewing. PageRank is a measure, rated from 1 to 10, of the "importance" that Google gives to that page. There has been a lot written about PageRank. You don't need to become obsessed with it but it IS an important consideration when determining WHO to link to. A link from a PR-5 page is worth FAR more than a PR-0 page.

2) Establish a resource or links directory for your site. This lets potential link partners see that you are willing to exchange links. You should make it clear on your links pages what your linking policy is i. e. under what conditions you will agree to exchange links.

3) Your aim should be to build a resource directory that is relevent to your business. Don't try to build a mini Yahoo with umpteen different categories. Keep your directory focussed on your site theme. When you first start out you will be inclined to link to anybody in exchange for a link FROM anybody. This is a mistake. Be patient and choose your link partners carefully.

4) Before requesting a link from another site, add that site to your directory. Contact the webmaster and tell them you added their link because you believe their site would be of interest to your visitors (and so it should). Give the url where your link is located and ask for a return link, along with instructions on how you would like your link worded. NEVER demand by saying things like "if you do not link to us we will remove your link".

5) If you have not received a reply after 2 - 3 weeks send a polite follow up. Again, don't demand. No one is under any obligation to link to you. If you do not receive a reply to your second request it means that the webmaster does not want to link to you, or they are simply too busy to respond. In that case, leave it and move on. I receive dozens of link requests a day. Sometimes it takes me many weeks to get around to responding. You'll go mad worrying about links that have not been reciprocated. Your time is better spent.

6) When you receive a link request visit the site and check that it meets with your requirements as set down on your link pages. Is it a quality site with good content or just a "link farm"? If it doesn't meet your requirements don't link to it.

The webmaster SHOULD have already linked to your site but be prepared to overlook that breech of linking protocol if it's from a good quality, high PR site.

7) Beware of webmasters who add your site to their "directory" which turns out to nothing but a link farm i. e. has no useful content, just a bunch of links, and asks you to link to an entirely different site, one that HAS good content. These webmasters are playing you for a sucker. The benefit is all theirs.

8) As I said in point #1, links from high PR pages are worth more than links from low or no PR pages. Seek out high PR linking partners but keep in mind it is the PR of the actual page your link is on that matters, NOT the PR of the home page. In other words if the home page PR is 5, but the page your link is on is several layers deep in the directory, it will probably have a PR of 0 and be of little benefit to you. Check the PR of the actual page your link is on, or is going to be on, before agreeing to exchange links.

Each page on your links directory should be no more than one click away from your home page, and your linking partner's site should be the same. If your link is placed on a page which looks something like this - directory/category/subcategory/subcategory with your link - you will derive NO value from that link.

9) Be prepared to negotiate your links. Savvy webmasters understand the value of links from high PR pages. If you add a link to a PR-0 page on your site don't expect your link partner to put your link on a PR-6 page, and your link partner shouldn't expect the same from you. Exchange value for like value.

When you first start out your site may not have any PR due to a lack of incoming links. This reduces your bargaining power. However, you can overcome this by getting your site listed in as many large business directories as possible. Some of these you will have to pay, such as Yahoo and Microsoft's Business Directory, but many others are free. You'll find a good list here:

http://www. strongestlinks. com/directories. php

10) Be specific about how you want your link partner to link to you. It is MOST important that the link to you contain your targeted keywords in the anchor (linked) text. When I ask for a link to my site I don't want the link title to be:

Steve Pronger Web Business Solutions

Instead, I ask for:

Create Website | Small Business Website Designer

or whichever keywords I am targeting at the time. A search for those keywords at Google will illustrate my point!

11) And finally, here is an excellent resource to help you find quality link partners. It's called Value Exchange, and will put you in contact with like-minded webmasters:

The latest news to hit the Internet's 'water fountain' is that Lycos and Ask Jeeves are to begin their own SEO services..

Search engine optimisation (or SEO) is any practice related to the end goal of improving your website’s positioning in the search engines.

The brief history of SEO is that it first started out solely as the remit of the developers themselves. This was back in the day when one person designed, built, maintained, hosted and marketed a website.

The Ever-Changing Internet Landscape

During the past few years, however, the entire Internet industry has divided up into a myriad divisions to such an extent that SEO is now a booming sector in its own right. Entering the term "seo" on Google returns nearly 20 million results!

Now businesses recognise that it is no longer possible to expect one individual or company to possess all the necessary skills ‘under one roof’ to be able to achieve great results on the graphic design, technical construction AND marketing of their website.

This has led to the trend of bringing in specialist search engine marketing consultants or companies to assist.

As Google and the like are spending millions every year on developing their tools to accurately sift through the billions of web pages that exist it really is a full time occupation just keeping track of what has an effect on search engine ranking and which strategies work best.

Everyone Wants 'Organic' Nowadays!

Ask Jeeves and Lycos are now offering their SEO service to help companies get found in the ‘organic’ results of search engines.

‘Organic’ results are those results in a search engine listing that are non-paid. Almost all search engines now offer businesses the shortcut of simply paying to get an ad listed whereas as a latest study indicates that only 28% of searchers will click on an advertisement as opposed to one of the ‘organic’ results (on Google).

This is the reason we’re all fighting for high rankings in the ‘organic’ results. This demand from businesses is also presumably the main driving factor behind Ask Jeeves and Lycos starting to offer their own Search Engine Optimisation services.

Money Well Spent?

In short - I’m not sure.

If you have a 50 page website, getting Lycos to provide you with SEO services will cost you a tidy $10,000. They also include the questionable tactic of re-submitting your website over and over to search engines which is both pointless and risky as some will act against those that submit more than once.

$10,000 sounds like a lot to me for a service that is only dealing with search engines and which talks of ‘recommendations’ that you then have to implement yourself.

Really though - it comes down to what you are trying to achieve with your website.

My two cents on this is that the Lycos service doesn’t devote enough attention to links - your money may be better spent on getting more high quality in-bound links or on a well-managed Pay Per Click Campaign.

Lsi and search engines

LSI and search engines

Now, what do we gain through the use of this LSI technology?

To answer briefly, we can say that with LSI, search engines took a step forward to give us an ideal search result. Now you would ask - what is an ideal search result? Then, answer this! What do you look for when you type in a keyword or a context in Google’s search text box?

With the number of Web pages increasing voluminously on the Web, we would like to rely doubtlessly on the search engine and want to use them as a librarian with huge capacity to recall, ability to give the most precise and relevant results and that too, with wonderful sense of ordering. More technically, the ideal search engine should be able to cater to this trinity of recall, precision, and order. And this is where LSI fits in wonderfully and enhances the search engine’s power to converge with artificial intelligence.

Let’s have a look at the dumb computer problems that LSI can well take care of.

As we said earlier, a conventional search engine based on keyword searching may not give you the best results. This is simply because the search engine programs cannot differentiate between:

•Similar words with different meanings, ex: Monitor workflow or monitor

•Words that are similar in meaning but spelled differently, ex: disease and maladies

•Singular and plural forms of words, ex: button and buttons

•Words with similar roots, such as differed, differs, and different

•Other grammatically different words, such as roast, roasted

The LSI, because it focuses on a bunch of keywords, so to say, and not a single keyword, and through its studied pattern of the relationship between semantically close and distant words in a collection of documents, it do not get confused between singular and plurals, or synonyms. It simply goes on to find the context developed by a bunch of keywords. So that, when you search for Tiger Woods, it doesn’t go on to look for Web pages that has used the keywords “tiger’ and ‘woods’ but lists a collection of pages that discusses Golf. This is what is called relevance feedback.

Usually, you will find that your search results are reduced with the increase in the number of keywords you search for. This is because a search engines functions better when they study, index, and recall for shorter and a simpler set of keywords. LSI goes the other way round and first focuses on knowing and analyzing a document exhaustively before indexing or categorizing it. Therefore, a latent semantic search engine allows a user to do an iterative search and provides useful feedback to frame a better search, if needed.

LSI is more close to human-generated taxonomies and categorization and takes a long step in structuring unstructured data. Hence, it is more archive-friendly. It allows archivists to efficiently label and index the LSI-generated categories. LSI does half the job and every document need not be indexed from scratch.

LSI helps in pointing out any part of content that is relevant but not covered in a document by comparing the data or content words on a given topic. This can find use in several contexts, one of them being a kind of automated grading system, where an assignment is compared to a sample of given quality.

LSI can investigate the semantic relationships within a text to decide on the relevance and consistency in the component parts. Adopting this into an application would enhance readability and comprehension. Naturally, these properties can be used effectively in instructional design and techniques.

However, the final and more relevant use of LSI is perhaps its power to filter information and prevent spamming or distribution of unsolicited electronic mail. By adapting and adjusting a latent semantic algorithm on your mailbox and feeding the details of known spam messages into it, junk mail can be prevented more effectively than with the current system of keyword based approaches.

LSI is an extremely methodical technique that needs high amount of monotonous precision, one that a computer can do efficiently. As obvious, the technique involves a purely mechanical search based on an extensive evaluation of a set of words and comparing their presence in a much larger set of documents. The process can be automated because the computer does not need to understand either the search query or the meaning of the words.

A Glimpse into the Lycos Search Engine. . .

A Visit with Adam Soroca, a Representative From Terra Lycos

By Robin Nobles

Recently, the Academy of Web Specialists (http://www. onlinewebtraining. com) had the good fortune of having Adam Soroca, a representative from Terra Lycos (http://www. lycos. com), attend a chat session to visit with our students. Mr. Soroca provided some excellent information about Terra Lycos as well as their plans for the future.

As means of introduction, Adam is the Group Product Manager for Lycos InSite and is in charge of building a comprehensive suite of search marketing tools. He has general management responsibilities for the vision, execution, and delivery of the Web-based platforms.

Adam explained further,

“I am charged with building a search marketing platform for Lycos. We launched our first product based on paid inclusion into the FAST Web index in February of this year. We were very quickly able to prove that by nature of our brand and presence, search marketers would come to visit for search marketing services.

“Two weeks ago, we launched our second product, InSite AdBuyer, a cost-per-click ad auction engine. Both of these products are designed around the concept of contextual advertising, so that a searcher is presented with highly relevant information when performing a search.

“While our platform is currently focused on our own index, we seek to provide one-stop access for all search marketing needs, including multiple index submission and multiple bid-management capabilities. All of these are designed to drive traffic (i. e., customer acquisition). We are also looking further down the visitor experience to the ROI side to encompass campaign management.”

The following are questions asked by Academy students to Mr. Soroca.

Question: “I see when I do a search on Lycos that there is an 'advertisement' on the right side. Is this the InSite AdBuyer?”

Adam: “Correct. Those are the AdBuyer cost-per-click ads. Our advertisers bid to be in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd positions.

“These are highly targeted ads as they are exact match keyword driven. So behind the scenes, advertisers are involved in a bidding auction to vie for that space.”

Question: “When someone clicks the 'place your ad here' link, does it show what the bids are for the keywords in question, so you know what you have to bid against?”

Adam: “No, actually we don't display the prices on the front end. To view the prices for particular keywords, advertisers must sign up for an account and view that in the advertisers’ area.”

Question: “What results does FAST supply to Lycos?”

Adam: “FAST currently provides Lycos with our search results. Our paid inclusion platform enables Web site owners and marketers to guarantee that their Web content is included in the Web index and frequently refreshed. This differs from paid placement in that the paid inclusion customers do not necessarily show up in the top of the results just because they paid us. This content is viewed by the relevancy algorithm and displayed appropriately.

“Currently this program is available to small/mid size companies for an annual subscription. For larger companies, it will be available at a cost-per-click (those sites >1,000 URL’s). Paid placement and paid inclusion are two separate products. If you bid for placement, you pay for actual clicks. If you buy paid inclusion, that means that your pages are guaranteed to be in the Web index (spiders can't find everything), and the content will be updated every 24-48 hours. So, if your content changes, the index will reflect that much more quickly. With an index of 2.1 billion documents, it can take FAST a while to recrawl the entire index. This program guarantees you are in there.”

Question: “So, you have to pay for inclusion before you bid for placement? Is this what I understand?”

Adam: “They are two separate programs. The paid inclusion relates to FAST and the Web index. The paid placement relates to the three ad panels that display on Lycos Search.”

Question: “And your placement number in Lycos is then based on the algorithm of the page submitted?”

Adam: “Correct!”

Question: “Where the paid placement is a cost per click, your placement is then based on the bid placed for a particular keyword?”

Adam: “Yes, exactly.”

Question: “If you aren't indexed and would like to buy pay per click, where would the cost per click be linked to?”

Adam: “The cost-per-click ads go to any page that you want provided that you have content that is relevant to the keyword that you bid on. The cost-per-click ads are completely separate from the index. You do not have to be in the index to bid on the ads. The ads are the 'advertisement' on the right hand side of the page.”

Question: “We are talking about cost per click (ad placement) and paid inclusion. My question is, if you don't pay for inclusion and pay for ad placement, would you be indexed with FAST or Lycos search engines?”

Adam: “No, they’re completely independent. Paid inclusion gets you into the Web index. Paid placement buys you space on the Web results page. You can have either or both, but they do not work together per se. However, it helps to purchase both for broad exposure through paid inclusion and targeted exposure through the CPC ads.”

Question: “In your new InSite AdBuyer program, FindWhat provides the technology but NOT the results for your pay-per-click ads, is that correct?”

Adam: “We have private labeled the FindWhat ad auction platform end-to-end. Lycos engages in relationships with the advertisers directly.”

Question: “Where are the sponsored listings from?”

Adam: “Those are provided by Overture, which is similar in concept. Advertisers are bidding for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions throughout Overture's network.”

Question: “What is the purpose of the “Fast Forward” button in your search results? I notice that using the button opens up a framed page where the left frame shows the search results including Overture ads, and the current site is highlighted. Does this button make it easier to visit the current results, and is that its purpose?”

Adam: “That is exactly the purpose. We are trying to give the searchers an easier way to browse through the pages that are served as results.”

Question: “Is it necessary to submit to both FAST and Lycos, either through free Add URL or pay inclusion, or does submitting to FAST get your site listed in both indexes?”

Adam: “Web site owners and marketers can submit to the FAST index either through Lycos or directly to FAST. There is no difference in the indexes. Lycos search results are powered by FAST.”

Question: “Does the #1 result from Kanoodle still show up in some Lycos searches?”

Adam: “No. Kanoodle does not provide results on Lycos.”

Question: “Are the results from the Lycos Web Sites Directory (ODP results) mixed in with the FAST results or only available through the Web Directory link at the top of the page?”

Adam: “Only FAST results appear in the Web result listings.”

In Conclusion

If you don’t have visibility in the Lycos search engine (http://www. lycos. com), you have several choices. You can pay for inclusion in the FAST index (http://www. positiontech. com/fast/index. htm), which will get you in the regular search results for Lycos. You can also participate in their InSite AdBuyer program (http://insite. lycos. com/searchservices/), a new cost-per-click advertising program. Or, purchase keywords through Overture (http://www. overture. com), which will also get you visibility in Lycos.

At the top of the Lycos page, you’ll see a link to the Web Directory, which is where ODP results are found. ODP results can only be found through this link, and they’re not mixed in with the FAST results. However, making sure that your site is listed in the ODP (http://dmoz. org) is another way to get added visibility through the Lycos search engine.

What is the google sandbox theory

Ok, so over the past month or so I've been collecting various search engine optimization questions from all of you. Today, I'm going to answer what was the most frequently asked question over the past month.

You guessed it... What is the Google Sandbox Theory and how do I escape it? When you finish reading this lesson, you'll be an expert on the good 'ole Google Sandbox Theory and you'll know how to combat its effects. So, pay close attention. This is some very important stuff.

Before I start explaining what the Google Sandbox theory is, let me make a few things clear:

The Google Sandbox theory is just that, a theory, and is without official confirmations from Google or the benefit of years of observation.

The Google Sandbox theory has been floating around since summer 2004, and has only really gained steam after February 4, 2005 , after a major Google index update (something known as the old Google dance).

Without being able to verify the existence of a Sandbox, much less its features, it becomes very hard to devise strategies to combat its effects.

Almost everything that you will read on the Internet on the Google Sandbox theory is conjecture, pieced together from individual experiences and not from a widescale objective controlled experiment with hundreds of websites (something that would obviously help in determining the nature of the Sandbox, but is inherently impractical given the demand on resources).

Thus, as I'll be discussing towards the end, it's important that you focus on ·good' search engine optimization techniques and not place too much emphasis on quick ·get-out-ofjail' schemes which are, after all, only going to last until the next big Google update.

What is the Google Sandbox Theory?

There are several theories that attempt explain the Google Sandbox effect. Essentially, the problem is simple. Webmasters around the world began to notice that their new websites, optimized and chock full of inbound links, were not ranking well for their selected keywords.

In fact, the most common scenario to be reported was that after being listed in the SERPS (search engine results pages) for a couple of weeks, pages were either dropped from the index or ranked extremely low for their most important keywords.

This pattern was tracked down to websites that were created (by created I mean that their domain name was purchased and the website was registered) around March 2004. All websites created around or after March 2004 were said to be suffering from the Sandbox effect.

Some outliers escaped it completely, but webmasters on a broad scale had to deal with their websites ranking poorly even for terms for which they had optimized their websites to death.

Conspiracy theories grew exponentially after the February 2005 update, codenamed ·Allegra' (how these updates are named I have no clue), when webmasters began seeing vastly fluctuating results and fortunes. Well-ranked websites were loosing their high SERPS positions, while previously low-ranking websites had gained ground to rank near the top for their keywords.

This was a major update to Google's search engine algorithm, but what was interesting was the apparent ·exodus' of websites from the Google Sandbox. This event gave the strongest evidence yet of the existence of a Google Sandbox, and allowed SEO experts to better understand what the Sandbox effect was about.

Possible explanations for the Google Sandbox Effect

A common explanation offered for the Google Sandbox effect is the ·Time Delay' factor. Essentially, this theory suggests that Google releases websites from the Sandbox after a set period of time. Since many webmasters started feeling the effects of the Sandbox around March-April 2004 and a lot of those websites were ·released' in the ·Allegra' update, this ·website aging' theory has gained a lot of ground.

However, I don't find much truth in the ·Time Delay' factor because by itself, it's just an artificially imposed penalty on websites and does not improve relevancy (the Holy Grail for search engines). Since Google is the de facto leader of the search engine industry and is continuously making strides to improve relevancy in search results, tactics such as this do not fit in with what we know about Google.

Contrasting evidence from many websites has shown that some websites created before March 2004 were still not released from the Google Sandbox, whereas some websites created as late as July 2004 managed to escape the Google Sandbox effect during the ·Allegra' update. Along with shattering the ·Time Delay' theory, this also raises some interesting questions. This evidence has led some webmasters to suggest a ·link threshold' theory; once a website has accumulated a certain amount of quantity/quality inbound links, it is released from the Sandbox.

While this might be closer to the truth, this cannot be all there is to it. There has been evidence of websites who have escaped the Google Sandbox effect without massive linkbuilding campaigns. In my opinion, link-popularity is definitely a factor in determining when a website is released from the Sandbox but there is one more caveat attached to it.

This concept is known as ·link-aging'. Basically, this theory states that websites are released from the Sandbox based on the ·age' of their inbound links. While we only have limited data to analyze, this seems to be the most likely explanation for the Google Sandbox effect.

The link-ageing concept is something that confuses people, who usually consider that it is the website that has to age. While conceptually, a link to a website can only be as old as the website itself, yet if you have don't have enough inbound links after one year, common experience has it that you will not be able to escape from the Google Sandbox. A quick hop around popular SEO forums (you do visit SEO forums, don't you?) will lead you to hundreds of threads discussing various results · some websites were launched in July 2004 and escaped by December 2004. Others were stuck in the Sandbox even after the ·Allegra' update.

How to find out if your website is sandboxed

Finding out if your website is ·Sandboxed' is quite simple. If your website does not appear in any SERPS for your target list of keywords, or if your results are highly depressing (ranked somewhere on the 40 th page) even if you have lots of inbound links and almostperfect on-page optimization, then your website has been Sandboxed.

Issues such as the Google Sandbox theory tend to distract webmasters from the core ·good' SEO practices and inadvertently push them towards black-hat or quick-fix techniques to exploit the search engine's weaknesses. The problem with this approach is its short-sightedness. To explain what I'm talking about, let's take a small detour and discuss search engine theory.

Understanding search engines

If you're looking to do some SEO, it would help if you tried to understand what search engines are trying to do. Search engines want to present the most relevant information to their users. There are two problems in this · the inaccurate search terms that people use and the information glut that is the Internet. To counteract, search engines have developed increasingly complex algorithms to deduce relevancy of content for different search terms.

How does this help us?

Well, as long as you keep producing highly-targeted, quality content that is relevant to the subject of your website (and acquire natural inbound links from related websites), you will stand a good chance for ranking high in SERPS. It sounds ridiculously simple, and in this case, it is. As search engine algorithms evolve, they will continue to do their jobs better, thus becoming better at filtering out trash and presenting the most relevant content to their users.

While each search engine will have different methods of determining search engine placement (Google values inbound links quite a lot, while Yahoo has recently placed additional value on Title tags and domain names), in the end all search engines aim to achieve the same goal, and by aiming to fulfill that goal you will always be able to ensure that your website can achieve a good ranking.

Escaping the sandbox...

Now, from our discussion about the Sandbox theory above, you know that at best, the Google Sandbox is a filter on the search engine's algorithm that has a dampening influence on websites. While most SEO experts will tell you that this effect decreases after a certain period of time, they mistakenly accord it to website aging, or basically, when the website is first spidered by Googlebot. Actually, the Sandbox does ·holds back' new websites but more importantly, the effects reduce over time not on the basis of website aging, but on link aging.

This means that the time that you spend in the Google Sandbox is directly linked to when you start acquiring quality links for your website. Thus, if you do nothing, your website may not be released from the Google Sandbox.

However, if you keep your head down and keep up with a low-intensity, long-term link building plan and keep adding inbound links to your website, you will be released from the Google Sandbox after an indeterminate period of time (but within a year, probably six months). In other words, the filter will stop having such a massive effect on your website. As the ·Allegra' update showed, websites that were constantly being optimized during the time that they were in the Sandbox began to rank quite high for targeted keywords after the Sandbox effect ended.

This and other observations of the Sandbox phenomenon · combined with an understanding of search engine philosophy · have lead me to pinpoint the following strategies for minimizing your website's ·Sandboxed' time.

SEO strategies to minimize your website's "sandboxed" time

Despite what some SEO experts might tell you, you don't need do anything different to escape from the Google Sandbox. In fact, if you follow the ·white hat' rules of search engine optimization and work on the principles I've mentioned many times in this course, you'll not only minimize your website's Sandboxed time but you will also ensure that your website ranks in the top 10 for your target keywords. Here's a list of SEO strategies you should make sure you use when starting out a new website:

Start promoting your website the moment you create your website, not when your website is ·ready'. Don't make the mistake of waiting for your website to be ·perfect'. The motto is to get your product out on the market, as quickly as possible, and then worry about improving it. Otherwise, how will you ever start to make money?

Establish a low-intensity, long-term link building plan and follow it religiously. For example, you can set yourself a target of acquiring 20 links per week, or maybe even a target of contacting 10 link partners a day (of course, with SEO Elite, link building is a snap). This will ensure that as you build your website, you also start acquiring inbound links and those links will age properly · so that by the time your website exits the Sandbox you would have both a high quantity of inbound links and a thriving website.

Avoid black-hat techniques such as keyword stuffing or ·cloaking'. Google's search algorithm evolves almost daily, and penalties for breaking the rules may keep you stuck in the Sandbox longer than usual.

Save your time by remembering the 20/80 rule: 80 percent of your optimization can be accomplished by just 20 percent of effort. After that, any tweaking left to be done is specific to current search engine tendencies and liable to become ineffective once a search engine updates its algorithm. Therefore don't waste your time in optimizing for each and every search engine · just get the basics right and move on to the next page.

Remember, you should always optimize with the end-user in mind, not the search engines.

Like I mentioned earlier, search engines are continuously optimizing their algorithms in order to improve on the key criteria: relevancy. By ensuring that your website content is targeted on a particular keyword, and is judged as ·good' content based on both on-page optimization (keyword density) and off-page factors (lots of quality inbound links), you will also guarantee that your website will keep ranking highly for your search terms no matter what changes are brought into a search engine's algorithm, whether it's a dampening factor a la Sandbox or any other quirk the search engine industry throws up in the future.

Have you taken a look at SEO Elite yet? If not... What's stopping you?

Now, get out there and start smoking the search engines!

Search engine optimisation black hat or white hat seo

title:Search Engine Optimisation: Black Hat or White Hat SEO?

If you are looking around for a search engine optimisation company to carry out some SEO work on your website, then make sure you choose the right colour hat. There are a large number of companies that adopt a fast and unethical approach to SEO, known as black hat SEO, while there are a smaller number or companies that implement ethical SEO work, known as white hat SEO. The key to choosing the right colour, which is obviously the white, is as follows…

Before you even think of taking on a search engine optimisation company, the first thing is to shop around and see what is out on the market. The same principles would apply if you were to buy a new computer. You would look at a few models, prices and what each model has to offer. If an SEO company was to offer a service that would guarantee you top ranks, there is a very good chance they are wearing a black hat. No SEO company can guarantee top ranks since they have no direct control over the search engines and their ranking algorithms. They can however mention that top ranks are highly achievable due to their previous success with other clients.

Be sure to look at a companies’ portfolio page (if they have one on their website or simply ask them) and carry out some research on their clients. This can be done by looking at the client’s website performance within the search engines for the selected keywords they have been optimised for. Another good idea would be to write a courtesy email to the client asking for a reference on the SEO company they have used to optimise their website.

The most important giveaway on a black hat SEO company is the way they would describe their services. If a company cannot go into detail on how they carry out their work (meaning they are very vague), and this involves justifying each step of their work, then it would be best to avoid their services. A proper SEO firm will be more than happy to explain their services in detail and justify their reasons for using such techniques. If you cannot quiet understand the techniques they use then be sure to do some research on the internet and read SEO articles that explain each technique. If you find that their work fits along the lines of your research and that it is all ethical, then they are a company you should put on your list.

A last point to mention, a company should stress the phrase ‘patience is the key to success with SEO’. If a company claims that they can achieve results very fast, then it is time to start running. In theory, SEO that is carried out correctly on a website will take time until the results start to show (most cases 3 to 6 months but could be longer).

Would you like to know what could happen to your website if you hire a black hat SEO company, regardless of how big or small your website is in terms of brand recognition? An example would be the story of the BMW German website. They hired a black hat SEO firm to carry out some work on their website and that resulted in their site being banned from the Google ranks. So it is best to do your research on SEO by reading articles such as this one and question a companies approach on search engine optimisation. This will ensure that you have selected the clean white hat and that your website will not be tarnished from the black.

Techniques in logo design

Your logo is a tangible representation of your identity and image. This means that whatever you decide to put on your logo – the colors, shapes, and even the lines – all of these should reflect the image you would want your target readers to remember you even for many years to come.

It represents your values, your beliefs and the traditions you have in your business. That’s why you put so much effort in coming up with the right logo especially with your full color business cards.

Here are a few ideas for your logo design that you can consider when you start creating your very own logo:

This technique is more of a going-back-to-the-basics kind of thing. It reflects simplicity more than creativity when designing your logo. In fact, major corporations have gone back to this type of logo design that the classic trend that was so popular during the 70s is again one of the hits today.

The technique is based on the basic geometric lines with a little visual twist. Especially with the advent of the computers and digital technology, the 70s natural geometric lines is definitely here to stay.

This technique applies two or more droplets, making them appear that they’re coming together to act as one entity. It is usually reflective of a union and meeting of ideas, which is very expressive especially if you’re looking at a more technical and scientific design. Often, this logo design have flat shapes, while some have highlights or shadows that provides the feeling of a multi-dimensional effect in your design.

Natural Spirals

This logo design comes out when you use two elements together that creates a natural and less-contrived spiral shape. This technique is more of a nature-inclined rather than a computer generated design. The unaffected combination of seeming disarray and geometry in the design provides order and freedom simultaneously.

This is in response to the growing youth market that needs to have their own set of design structure. The youth have always been one of the driving forces that every business owner and marketer need to focus on. That’s why from the late 60s to the early 70s, the set of designs that came out to address the personality of the youth market have become very popular during those time. You can see this type of logo design resurfacing especially from companies that cater to the ever developing youth niche.

There are a lot more logo designs out there that you can apply to create your very own design. The bottom line is to make each design that you pick embody what you value most in your business because that would be yours for a very long time.

Most of you know what a blog is. But have you ever had to ping a web site? Did you know that the two together, blog and ping have become the talk of the seo forums lately on how powerful these two techniques together can be at getting any web site no matter how small or large, indexed almost immediately by the major search engines and for free.

If you're a webmaster then you know how frustrating it can be to be able to get your site listed and indexed in the major search engines in a reasonable amount of time. You spend countless hours creating your site, adding content, checking keyword density, etc... You then take the time to hand submit your site to all the major search engines like Yahoo, Google, AOL, MSN and then wait... and wait for the spiders to come index your web pages.

If you're lucky they may come by this week, this month, or even this year. After spending all your time and money in the development of your site the last thing you want to do is wait forever for it to show you the fruits of your labor. You want to get it listed as fast as possible. Now there are some ways you can get the spiders to visit your site sooner. Like posting to similar high ranking forums, buying high PR rated links, or submitting articles on your subject and linking back to your site.

All of these techniques work and work well, along with some other methods not mentioned here. But they all still take time. Some may work faster then others, but how would you like it if you could learn how get your site spidered and indexed by all of the major search engines in only 48 hours without spending a dime?

By blogging and pinging you can do just that. You need to follow some simple steps in setting up this strategy. But once set up it can become a major tool to getting any of your sites listed quickly.

Setting these steps up isn't hard you just need to do them in a proper sequence or all your work will be in vain. But with the proper research you could very well be on your way to getting your site indexed and listed in as little as a few days.

1. Search engines read your pages from the top down.

So, you want to use your critical keywords at least once in the first paragraph on each web page. Then you can use it once in each paragraph after that and in the last line. Use the search engine keywords in your page title and in the name of your page if possible. All of this coordination will result in a much higher placement on Google, Yahoo and many other search engines.

2. Write shorter articles

The top search engines experts believe that google gives much more weight to relatively smaller pages. The theory behind this is that web surfers have such a short attention span that thesis length pages will be ignored; therefore, they are not useful in search engine results.

A good guide for online articles is 300 to 600 words. Typically, you don’t want to go under 200 because the information would probably be discarded as too short to adequately explain any topic in detail.

3. Original content works best

If you are going to submit an article to an ezine or other article directories, make a few changes before you do so. Overall, the search engines prefer fresh original content. While duplicate content gets your name out on the web and lots of incoming links, after a while, your site will start to suffer if you post the same article on your website.

The search engines will see it as duplicate content and only the highest ranking pages will get credit for the articles. If your site is not the highest ranking, your article can help another website get more traffic than you do. So, make a few changes, or better yet, create two separate articles on the same topic.

Place one on your site, and submit the other one to the search engines. You get the incoming links and other websites will have to deal with the consequences of an article that is distributed over 600 times online.

4. Follow the links

The purpose of links is not only to get a high google rank, but also as a way to bring in traffic. Seek out links from sites with a high page rank and exchange links with some of your competitors.

It helps the search engines to quantify your field of expertise since a site about web hosting wouldn’t naturally link to a cooking site. You outbound links are just as important as your inbound links. It’s the friends’ theory… show me where you link and I’ll tell you what type of website you are.

Ok, so it’s my theory, but you get the idea.

Search engine optimization in an ecommerce world

Before one can fully understand the importance and necessity of implementing a search engine optimization program into their marketing mix, it is important to look first at the phenomenal statistics regarding Internet use. For example:

There are 7 new people on the Internet every second.

Every 4th person online is buying something right now.

One billion dollars in e-commerce transactions will be conducted this month.

Over one trillion dollars in e-commerce business will be generated this year.

1 out of 8 dollars spent by consumers is spent on online transactions.

(Source: ACCUTIPS. com, December 2003)

Furthermore, according to glreach. com, there were 649 million Internet users online worldwide in March 2003---a 14 percent increase in just one year! That comes out to be about 88 million new users in that year alone.

There can be no question that the Internet is continuing to grow at an amazing pace. While the fact that so many consumers are online is important, it is even more crucial to understand what these consumers are doing while online. The two most outstanding reasons people use the Internet is to communicate (e-mail) and to research (using search engines).

Again, here are a few statistics regarding how people spend their time online (for more statistics and a list of sources, visit http://www.10xmarketing. com/information. asp):

88% of all Internet users use search engines

37% of online shoppers used Google to search for online retailers. Search was used by 25 percent of consumers searching the Web for holiday purchases

For car buying decisions, search engine advertising proved itself a stronger influencer (26 percent) than TV ads (17 percent)

Virtually all affluent adult shoppers (HHI $100K+) use the Web to make or research their purchases. For automobile, computer and travel purchases, Internet use is extraordinarily high (over 90 percent of those surveyed)

When consumers go to the Internet, they use search engines because they are able to find the products they want, reviews, descriptions, consumer ratings, and the best price possible. Consumers are less concerned with where they buy their products as much as they are concerned with how much product they can get for their dollar.

Thus, each day millions of people use search engines to look for items they want to buy on the Internet. Those businesses that appear on the first page of these searches are getting 50% to 70% of the business from these customers. There is little doubt that potential customers are currently using search engines to search for the products and services your company sells. The only real question is, What are you doing to help them find you, instead of your competitors?

There are two ways to have your web site to appear on the first page of any search. The first is to engage in a pay-per-click campaign. The second is to appear on the first page due to free or natural search results. Getting high, natural rankings in major search engines is one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to market and sell your products on the Internet.

Search engines use complex, mathematical algorithms to determine which web sites are ranked high and which are not. If your web site matches the criteria, youre ranked high. If it doesnt, then youre not. Its that simple.

Search engine optimization, then, is designing your website and all of your eCommerce actions so that when consumers search for keywords that are central to your company, your website will appear at the top of the search results.

For example, if your company sells running shoes (a keyword that receives 127,575 searches per month), it would be very beneficial to be one of the top websites on the search engine. If you received only a small percentage of new visitors each month from that top ranking, it would still result in a significant source of revenue.

It might help to think of it this way: At least 10 million Internet searches are performed every month within each major business category. If only 1% of those searches found your website, you would have over 100,000 new visitors to your site each month. If only 1% of those visitors purchased your products or services, you would be making more than 1,000 new sales per month. (The worldwide average is 2.5%, making these conservative estimates.)

The scope of this article is not to look at the methods behind search engine optimization. Instead, it is to look at the importance the Internet is playing in business development today and in the future. The traditional marketing schemes of the past still have their place, but advertising dollars must be allocated to Internet marketing.

As Bruce Carlisle, CEO of SFInteractive said, If you arent putting money into search engines you are letting business walk out the door.

Identify your target market by tracking and exploiting profitable search engine keyword phrases

There's a very lucrative "marketing formula" to targeting prospects on the Internet with "laser-beam"-like precision.

Unlike savvy marketers, most Internet businesses focus on generic "single-word" keywords, other than keyword phrases (constituted by 2 or more words).

If you're not using a keyword tracking software to correlate your customers with the search engine keywords that motivated them to visit your web site, read your sales letter and submit an order, you're missing bits of very critical information.

One known method to track your referrals via search engines is by using a cgi/php script. All you need is to place a snippet of HTML, JavaScript or SSI code onto your web pages to track referrals and keywords. You also need to place a tracking code to the "Thank You" page to track the sale and identify the customer.

Most Internet customers use two or more keywords to find products / services on the Internet. Critical data can be extracted from keywords that your customers used to visit your web site...

How to make Best Use of Keywords to Improve your Sales Letters and Boost ROI...

Let's assume that you already have a database of customers and in a database-field (let's name it field "K"), the keywords (or keyword phrases) they used to order your product.

Now print the "K" field and start studying the keywords. Evaluate your web site and discern the strong points of your sales letter.

You can make appropriate adjustments in your sales copy by reinforcing the conceivable value of your product and using the "K" field as a compass.

You'll also discover that prospective customers use a variation of keyword combinations.

Once you discover your most profitable keywords that customers use via search engines to visit and order your goods, your promotions will start reaping more fruit.

Another technique you can use based on keyword metrics, is the addition of "alluring incentives" that compel prospects to take action now! It's almost like reading your prospects' mind! Can you see the power behind this methodology?

That's the focal "golden concept" to using the Internet as an Ultimate Sales Genie.

Hint: Some forceful marketers use Search Engine Keyword Tracking, to produce even more compelling infomercials on TV as well.

A Crucial Internet Keyword-Research Tool to Discover what your Prospective Customers are using Now, to Buy Products on the Internet...

Stop targeting the wrong keywords to promote your web site on search engines. There's a powerful keyword researching tool which is very accurate and immensely crucial for your online business.

Did you know that the "most popular keywords" are the ones that are will drain your budget on pay-per-click search engines? It is a statistical fact that popular searches are conducted by "freebie" hunters and accrue too much competition.

Here's where "Word Tracker" comes in to automate your researches for the most profitable keywords. You can use this tool to optimize your web site, discover "new buying trends" and even outperform your competition on the search engines.

Hint: Don't rely on Overture's keyword researching tool. It's often too bamboozled.

Here's the URL for Word Tracker : http://traffic-engine. net/keywords

If you were asked to describe your product with just one word, that wouldn't be feasible of course. A "description" is always constituted by a phrase and that's where your most profitable keywords originate (from a multi-word phrase).

On the contrary a single word cannot describe a product or service. For instance, if you were offering "car quotes" this keyword-phrase would characterize your online business (not just "cars", or "quotes" - but "car quotes", or "new car quotes"...etc).

Recapping the entire methodology to leverage your productivity and ROI (Return On Investment):

Use Referral Tracking Software to Target your Customers

Create a Database and match Referrer Sales Information with the correlated keywords to Optimize your Advertising Campaigns.

Automate your researches with keyword metrical tools (like Word Tracker).

Improve your sales copy and literature by succumbing emphasis on the most profitable keyword phrases entered in search engines by your customers.

Once you start implementing the "exposed" methodology you'll start harnessing biggest "bangs" on your advertising dollars... better ROI and high conversion ratios. More targeted traffic and highly-optimized marketing campaigns.

You can even match your optimum keywords with demographic variables using sophisticated databases. The Internet is fairly considered an "Unrivaled Weapon" in every marketing arsenal. Use it wisely and watch your customer base skyrocket!

How to write articles to drive massive traffic to your website

You probably know by now that one of the best methods of driving highly targeted visitors to your website is through the use of articles. These short, but to the point, pieces of content on specific topics can literally drive your website's hits counter into overdrive. They are the favorite, and sometimes, most kept secret of the more experienced Internet marketers.

There are many ways of making these articles. You can make them on your own by writing about what you know about the subject that you choose. If you are trying to write something that you are not really an expert on, you could still do it by doing research on it on the Internet. Visit article sites, FAQ pages and bulletin boards and read about your subject. Take note of the important facts about your topic so that you can write your article based on it.

After you gather all the information you need, you now need to sit down and write your article. It doesn't have to be a thousand-word masterpiece. Try to target around 300 to 700 words for your article and you will do just fine. Just write in a conversational manner, as if you are speaking to an audience or a single person.

After you finish the article, take some time to come up with a good title for it. Make sure that the title is something that will grab the attention of your readers so that they will read your article. Remember, your title can make or break your article. If you don't get your reader's interest to read further, they won't even bother about your content.

Now that you have your article with a good title, it's time to make your resource box. If your purpose for making your article is to drive traffic to your website, this is the right place to do this. I found that you could get more visitors to your website by offering them something of value that they can get by going to your website, such as a free ecourse or ebook.

Here's an example of a resource box:

John Doe has been helping people to succeed on the Internet for many years now. He has written an ebook that teaches newbies how to earn thousands online. Get your free copy from his website at http://yourwebsitehere. com

Finally, you need to submit your article to publishers and article directories so that it can get published and read by many people. There are hundreds of publishers and article directories to submit to on the Internet. Here are a few of them to get you started.

How to get indexed by search engines

Why Can't I Get Indexed by the Search Engines? Unfortunately, this is an all too common question. If it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one frustrated about the length of time it takes to be indexed, or the many pitfalls involved. It often takes anywhere from two days to as much as six months to be listed on a search engine. For example, last month Excite finally updated its index for the first time since last August! Luckily, Excite is the most extreme case lately, but waiting several weeks to a month can also be extremely frustrating.

A Web Position Submitter report will give you current time estimates for each engine so you'll know what to expect. However, an engine at any time could choose to delay their indexing beyond the "norm" for maintenance or other reasons. On the flip side, you could get lucky and submit just a couple days before an engine does a complete refresh of their database. Therefore, submission times can never be an exact science since we're all ultimately at the mercy of the engine. If you've submitted your site and have waited the estimated time to be indexed and there's still no listing, what do you do now?

Here are 16 tips that should help you solve this problem:

1. First, be sure you're not already indexed but just don't know it. Unfortunately, none of the major engines are kind enough to e-mail or notify you as to if and when you've been indexed. The method to determine if a page or domain has been indexed varies from one engine to another, and in many cases, it's difficult to tell for sure. Never assume that you're not indexed just because you searched for a bunch of keywords and you never came up in the first few pages of results. You could be in there but buried near the bottom. In addition, it's not very practical to check the status of a number of pages on each major engine each week. Fortunately, Web Position has a URL verification feature in the Reporter that makes this process much easier. Each time you run a mission, it will report which URLs exist and do not exist in each engine.

2. Make sure you have uploaded the pages to your site before submitting them. This one seems obvious, but submitting a page that does not exist or submitting with a subtle typo in the URL is a goof we might all make at one time or another. If you're using Web Position's Submitter, there's a checkbox on tab 2 that forces Web Position to verify that all your URLs are valid before submitting them.

3. If you have information inside frames, that can cause problems with submissions. It's best if you can create non-framed versions of your pages. You should then submit the non-frames versions of your pages which can of course point to your framed Web site. Alternatively, you can enter your relevant text within the “no frames” area of a framed page which most search engine spiders will read.

4. Search engine spiders cannot index sites that require any kind of registration or password. A spider cannot fill out a form of any kind. The same rule applies regarding indexing of content from a searchable database, because the spider cannot fill out a form to query that database. The solution is to create static pages that the engines will be able to find.

5. Dynamic pages often block spiders. In fact, any URL containing special symbols like a question mark (?) or an ampersand (&) will be ignored by many engines.

6. Most engines cannot index text that is embedded in graphics. Text that appears in multimedia files (audio and video) cannot be indexed by most engines. Information that is generated by Java applets or in XML coding cannot be indexed by most engines.

7. If your site has a slow connection or the pages are very complex and take a long time to load, it might time out before the spider can index all the text. For the benefit of your visitors and the search engines, limit your page size to less than 60K. In fact, most Webmasters recommend that your page size plus the size of all your graphics should not exceed 50K-70K. If it does, many people on dial up connections will leave before the page fully loads.

8. If you submit just your home page, don't expect a search engine to travel more than one or two links away from the home page or the page that you submitted. Over time they may venture deeper into your site, but don't count on it. You'll often need to submit pages individually that appear further down into your site or have no link from the home page.

9. If your Web site fails to respond when the search engine spider pays a visit, you will not be indexed. Even worse, if you are indexed and they pay a visit when your site is down, you'll often be removed from their database! Therefore, it pays to have a reliable hosting service that is up 99.5% of the time. However, at some point a spider is going to hit that other 0.5% and end up yanking your pages by mistake. Therefore, it pays to keep a close eye on your listings.

10. If you have ever used any questionable techniques that might be considered an overt attempt at spamming (i. e., excessive repetition of keywords, same color text as background, or other things that the WebPosition Page Critic warns you about), an engine may ignore or reject your submissions. If you're having trouble getting indexed in the expected amount of time, make sure your site is spam-free.

11. If your site contains redirects or meta refresh tags these things can sometimes cause the engines to have trouble indexing your site. Generally they will index the page that it is redirecting TO, but if it thinks you are trying to "trick" the engine by using "cloaking" or IP redirection technology, there's a chance that it may not index the site at all.

12. If you're submitting to a directory site like Yahoo, Open Directory, NBCi, Looksmart, or others, then a human being will review your site. They must decide the site is of sufficient "quality" before they will list it. I recommend you read the submission guide on the directory tab of the WebPosition Submitter. It contains tips to improve your chances of obtaining a good listing on these directories.

13. A number of engines no longer index pages residing on many common free web hosting services. The common complaint from the engines is that they get too many "junk" or low-quality submissions from free web site domains. Therefore, they often choose not to index anyone from those domains or they limit submissions from them. It's always best to buy your own domain name (very important) and place it on a respected, paid hosting service to avoid being discriminated against.

14. Some engines have been known to drop pages that cannot be traveled to from the home page. HotBot has been rumored to do this. You may want to consider submitting your home page that links either directly or indirectly to your doorway pages.

15. Make sure you're submitting within the recommended limits. Some engines do not like more than a certain number of submissions per day for the same domain. If you exceed the limit, you may find that all your submissions are ignored. Fortunately, WebPosition's submitter will warn you regarding current limits and recommend you stay within them. Some submission consultants feel it is dangerous to submit more than ONE page a day to a engine for a given Web site. For those who wish to be ultra-conservative in their approach, the WebPosition Submitter includes a checkbox to limit submissions to one URL per day per engine.

16. Last but not least, sometimes the engines just lose submissions at random through technical errors and bugs. Therefore, some people like to resubmit once or twice a month for good merit in case they do lose a submission. Certainly if you've followed all the "rules" and are still not listed, re-submit! Sometimes a little persistence is all that's needed.

If any of the above scenarios apply to your submission, you should make the necessary adjustments and re-submit. If that still does not work, you should consider e-mailing or calling the search engine and asking them politely why you have not been indexed yet. Sometimes they will reply back with "Sorry, there was a problem with our system and I've now made sure you'll be indexed within the next couple days." Or, sometimes they'll tell you why you were not indexed. In other cases, they will ignore your e-mail and you'll have to keep e-mailing or calling them until they respond. Still, it's definitely worth the effort to get your site listed with the major engines assuming you also take the time to optimize your pages so you'll achieve top rankings. I hope this helps in your future marketing decisions.

Simple Steps for Beginners to Get Good Rank Position and Make Your Site Sell

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) method important for you especially if you come to the world of internet marketing in a shoe string budget promotion for your business. If you are a newbie or beginner, don’t worry about this! This method is for you who want to optimize your website and then get the top rank on search engine. And it all could be possible for you by follow the simple steps hereunder:

1. Have Your Own Website

If you like to be an affiliate, much business opportunity will give you personal website as your rep tools which it will be customized to your name, id, etc. This is good since you don’t have to put any effort to design your website and hosting. But remember, you can’t modify it and put anything on your own to enrich the content and optimized to website. Besides the customized website is very similar to each other and the content is beyond your control so it is not easy to get indexed by search engine. So if you want to give good popularity to your main website (the customized website from your company) get some free or paid hosting and have your own website. Or try blog. For me blogging is very easy to use and can be purposed for many idea, both publishing personal thoughts and business. Blog is easy to update, it could give good informative things with nice template to choose. Personally I like Blogger at www. blogger. com.

2. Content, Content, and Content again.

Why content could be the most important in optimizing your website? Because no matter how beautiful and attractive your website with animation or banner, you must understand that the content hold the main important role to be indexed in search engine. Don’t just put big banners and abundant links of affiliates on your website. You must focus on what your main business and what you want to offer most. Don’t offer too many and wide range of product. Except they are related each others, be unique in you content. Give good quality of information, use simple words in short paragraphs and good structure and language.

3. Domain Name is Your Business Name

Try the best you can to get domain name which described your business well. Your domain name must be used as your main ad most important keyword for people to find your website or what you offer. If you like to sell food for chicken, for example, let your domain name www. foodchicken. com. Avoid putting unrelated name and description since it will hurt your rank position in search engine. If you like to list your website on directory, put the first capital like A or number 1 is good for you to get top position.

4. Put Good Certain Keywords

The next step you must evaluate with good care in your content is keyword. Put extra attention to good keywords which you think will be used by people to find your site. Use the most related keywords and focus on what your business offer. Don’t just use single word only, people like t search by using certain keywords with phrase. Collect good keywords with low competition. Use Wordtracker at http://www. wordtracker. com. After you get your certain keyword, put it as Title of your Website and as the first words in sentence of your paragraph.

5. Put Brief Description

Give short and clear description on the top and at the beginning of your website informing your website content and your business offer in brief. Don’t forget to emphasize your main keyword here. But avoid use excessive keywords in your sentence. It won’t be good for your website and business since you put yourself in danger as noticed doing spamming by search engine. Make good language and well structured sentence always.

6. Give Important Note

Give bold, italic or under strike to your important keywords and phrase. Search engine will note that the keywords are important and will give good rank to you in search result. Make link to your other website with the main keyword as link name. It will give your sentence nice looking. For example: Enhance your knowledge and get more information at Your Business Name.

If you don’t familiar with HTML, I would like to inform you even you don’t want to be a webmaster it’s important for you to know HTML at least the basic one. If you like to get HTML knowledge, www. webmonkey. com is good place for you to learn.

7. Meta Tag

Some search engine still use the information from meta tag as their method to index website. Meta tag should be put after and before in your template. This is the sample of meta tag:

8. Link Popularity

Link Popularity is known as the number of websites that link to your website. And it is become one of the factors that help search engines determine your relevancy for a search term and index your website there. Gaining link from other site has proven to be a popular method for people seeking to improve their search engine rankings.

But not all the link your site will be good link for you and measured by search engine. If it comes from popular and reputable website sure it will give you good performance, but you must avoid the bad link which comes from spammer site or from link farm. If you can’t get link from important site, just try to have it from the same content and your own related site.

Some good links can come by join forum and make good PR campaign or write articles. Sign your name at the bottom of your posting or writing and be sure to include a signature that includes a link to your website.

The most of all, the natural links will come if you give good quality content and good features on your website, people would like to link to your site as the results. So get focus on this. The links will flow naturally.

Making targeted traffic work for you

There has been a lot of debate in other articles, forums, and books regarding sending targeted traffic to your website. Some sing its praises but many webmasters dismiss targeted traffic as a waste of money. They argue that CPC (cost per click) or paid banner/text link advertising is a better method for generating quality visitors to your site.

There is no doubt the CPC advertising and paid banner links can be a valuable source or web business. In fact, CPC advertising usually has a much high conversion rate (a greater percentage of visitors: registering on your site, signing up for your newsletter, or buying your product, etc.) than bulk targeted traffic. However, advertisers must pay a premium for this higher conversion rate. If the campaign is done properly targeted traffic is an inexpensive way to get your message out.

Here is an Example:

“Digital Camera” targeted visitor from Overture $1.70 / visitor

100,000 Banner Impressions (1% CTR) $0.35 / visitor

Targeted Traffic Targeted Visitors $.003 / visitor

Obviously targeted traffic is far less expensive than other methods of online advertising in terms or price per visitor. However, webmaster are, and should be, less concerned with price per visitor and more concerned with price per conversion, i. e., what is the cost per person registering on your site, signing up for your newsletter, or buying your product, etc.

So, in essence, the key to making targeted traffic work is to maximize your conversion rate. Let’s examine some primary rules you should follow to accomplish this.

1. Get traffic from a reliable source. You need to know where the traffic is coming from. Is it from Expired Domain redirects? Is it from pop ups or unders? If it is from pop ups/unders, does the traffic source have a method to compensate for pop up blockers? If not, you may find the actual traffic far less than the traffic you are being charged for.

2. Pinpoint your target market. Don’t try to save a few dollars with untargeted traffic. Make sure your message is being seen by people interested in your product or service. Give some thought to who would really benefit from your offer and target that group. Also, consider regional targeting as well. If you sell a product and can only ship to US customers, make sure only US visitors are being targeted with your message.

3. Create Impact Quickly. You have one brief chance to convert targeted traffic. Choose your landing page wisely. Use a page that will grab a visitor’s attention right away. However, be cautious not to create a message with too much hype. Web surfers have become more callous to advertising and may ignore messages that sound too fake.

The best option is to give a brief description of your offer then require them to click through to get more information. This way you can track conversions.

4. Avoid putting all your eggs in one basket. Experiment with different landing pages to see what works best for your offer. Do not send hundreds of thousands of visitors to a single page. Create several different landing pages and send 10k visitors or so to these pages. This way you can find out what works best and focus the rest of your traffic on those pages.

Also, don’t try to get all your traffic in a few days. By spreading it out over time you may convert repeat visitors who overlooked your message the first time.

5. Maximize your advertising dollar. I also like to sign up with a text link (www. textdot. com) or banner exchange (www. bexchanged. com) and place that code on my landing page. This way you can maximize your advertising budget by earning banner/link impressions. Just make sure that the code does not interfere with your primary message.

By following these rules, you will have a much greater chance of your targeted traffic campaign being a success.

Yahoo drops google how to flood your site with traffic in the next 48 hours

It official Yahoo has dropped Google and will be using Inktomi's results to power their directory.

Previously when you did a search at Yahoo the top sponsor ads are from Overture and the bulk "free listing" ads were supplied by Google.

A few months back Yahoo purchased Inktomi as well as Overture and the online community was just waiting for the day that Yahoo would power all it's results in house.

That day is here...

Inktomi is a paid inclusion service. What this means is that you pay for each page you want included in the search engines.

Currently Inktomi powers MSN, About. com, HotBot, numerous other search engines and now Yahoo.

The submission charges are $39US for the first page and $25US for each additional page. This price covers your pages for a full year. This is a huge savings over going direct to Yahoo for $199 to $399 with no guarantee of any type of inclusion in their directory.

Your pages are guaranteed to be refreshed every 48 hours and included in all the engines powered by Inktomi.

Please keep in mind that this does not guarantee a certain rank within the search engines. This is why you only submit your best optimized pages.

To take advantage of this golden opportunity do the following:

1. Choose your best keyword optimized page or pages.

2. Go to http://www. All-Paid-Inclusions. com and set up your paid inclusion account.

3. Choose to submit to Inktomi and follow the step by step instructions.

4. Within the next 2 days log back into your paid inclusion account and verify that your pages are marked as "refreshed"

5. Check your rank in the various search engines for your optimized keywords

6. Tweak pages every 48 hours to get your desired results.

You now can cash in on the explosion of traffic from Yahoo within the next 48 hours.

No one knows how long this window of opportunity will last.

The opinion among search engine experts and those in the know is that Yahoo will raise the prices of Inktomi inclusions drastically and without warning.

If you use pay per clicks you may remember when Overture did this. At the time clicks were .05 minimum and they sent a notice stating effective immediately the minimum bid is .10 per click.

So don't wait around get your pages in now at the lower price. You can tweak them later.

Common candle questions answered

title:Common Candle Questions - Answered

author:Susquehanna Candle

date_saved:2007-07-25 12:30:19

I was checking your site for a good outdoor/citronella candle but couldn’t find one… do you make citronella candles?

While Susquehanna Candle does not promote their candles as citronella, their formula makeup is coincidently constructed in such a way that repels most summer time bugs and pests including mosquitoes and black flies.

So next time you have a summer party – set out a few of our lit triple-wick candles and be pleasantly surprised by the results. Another tid bit about our candles is that, unlike many of our competitors, including the nation’s leading candle company, Susquehanna Candles have an extremely high melting point. This means that they will not deform or melt all over the back seat of your car on a hot summer day, nor will they arrive at your doorstep, after shipment, in any other way than perfect condition – wicks remaining straight and wax blemish-free.

I’m afraid of lighting candles in my house because I have young kids – what would you recommend as an alternative?

There is no need for an alternative. Many of our candles can scent a small room without even being lit. Also, our candles are made up of 100% Cotton Wicks and the wax is of the highest quality and food grade; that means we use the same wax in our candles as do chocolate and candy bakers. Therefore, you needn’t worry about children who seem to put any thing and everything into their mouths – our candles are completely safe and non-toxic for both kids and curious pets.

I keep hearing about Soy Candles and how they are supposed to be the most environmentally friendly… do you sell soy candles?

Yes, Soy Candles do seem to be the latest trend. While Susquehanna Candle has honored requests to manufacture soy candles for a few high-end cosmetic companies, we do not make any under our own brand and recommend steering clear of them for a variety of reasons. Our research has found that soy candles have a limited shelf life, poor fragrance quality, low melting points, heavy material expense and inaccurate impression of being “the highest quality candle.”

Soy candles seem to have a minimal shelf life, many becoming rancid within only six months after production. To counteract this, many companies that boast “Soy Candles” only use 1-10% soy in their wax in an attempt to lengthen the candle life. They often substitute other less expensive and “dirtier” waxes for the remainder of the candle – therefore creating a candle that carries the name “soy” but not much else. At Susquehanna Candle, we use only the best quality, food-grade, paraffin wax. This ensures a cleaner burn that is completely environmentally (and kid) safe. The formula and composition of Susquehanna Candles is unique to our company.

In general, soy candles do provide a cleaner burn and smoother surface than most other wax types. Susquehanna Candle has created their wax formula in such a fashion that we will put our candles up against soy candles any day. We guarantee they will burn just as well (if not better), and their surface will be as smooth, as cosmetically perfect (if not better), than soy candles.

Finally most soy candles that are on the market are unscented, or in only a limited number of fragrances. This is because the wax, itself, is not made to hold fragrance oils. When the oils are added – the natural “fatty” scent of soy combines with that of the fragrance oil to distort and curdle the intended scent.

Soy candles also are created with a very low melting point. This means, if you purchase them, we recommend not leaving them in your car on a hot summer day – when you return there will be nothing but wax in your backseat. Nor do we recommend ordering them during the summer – you will face a very similar problem. Susquehanna Candles are formulated to withstand high temperatures – up to 160 degrees – without disfigurement or melting.

After the candle is done burning, some of the wax has melted down, but much of the wax is missing. Where does the missing wax go? Does it turn into airborne particles only to be inhaled by my lungs? This has puzzled me, so I was hoping you could help me out.

This is what happens when you burn a candle, the wax oxidizes in the flame to yield water and carbon dioxide, which dissipate in the air around the candle, in a reaction which also yields light and heat. Paraffin wax is composed of chains of connected carbon atoms surrounded by hydrogen atoms. These hydrocarbon molecules can burn completely. First the heat of the flame vaporizes the wax molecules and then they react with the oxygen in the air. As long as the wax doesn't melt away from the flame, the flame will consume it completely and leave no ash or wax residue.

This is not harmful. However, do check to make sure the candles you purchase contain wicks that are 100% Cotton. Many imports contain lead wicks – which can cause severe health problems.

When purchasing a candle how does one know if a candle is scented throughout or simply scented on the surface?

Unfortunately there is no clear way to tell whether the candle is scented throughout or not, unless it says directly on the package. However, through my experience, I have found the cheaper candles (primarily those coming from china) seem to only have fragranced coatings on them – with chunks of unscented wax in the middle. Fragrance oil is one of the most expensive ingredients in candle manufacturing. I recommend simply using your common sense: if you see a 22 oz candle for $5 – more than likely you will not receive the same fragrance at the beginning as at the end.

Someone once asked me about an expression they’d read but didn’t quite understand. The expression referred to a game being worth its candle. Can you provide any help?

The more usual form of this expression is not worth the candle. It dates from medieval times, when any night-time activity had to be lit by candles, which were expensive. So some activity that wasn’t worth the candle wasn’t worth the cost of supplying the light to see it by. It’s only now, when the obvious link between the situation and the expression has been lost as a result of changing technology, that people can use forms like not worth its candle, subtly shifting the sense and making it harder to understand.

Incidentally, candles played such a large part in life in the centuries before whale oil lamps, gas and electricity successively appeared that several expressions are connected with them, such as can’t hold a candle to him, meaning that a person isn’t fit even to hold the candle for somebody else to work. Another is burn the candle at both ends, to be spendthrift, to expend one’s effort too lavishly, or try to do too much at once.

In my dog’s excitement at welcoming a dinner guest into my home, his tail knocked over one of my candles and ended up spilling the wax onto my carpeted floor. How do I get the wax out?

You can remove melted candle wax from a carpet or even a piece of furniture with a brown paper bag and an iron. Just place a piece of brown paper (folded) over the melted wax area and place a hot iron, on a low setting, on top of the newspaper for 5 to 10 seconds, lift up iron and paper. The wax should have soaked up into the paper and removed it from the carpet. This might need to be repeated a few times.

I have melted votive candle wax all over the bottom of my favorite holder. How do I get it out?

To get any of our melted votive wax out of holders, simply place the holder in the refrigerator for an hour and wax will “pop” out. How does this happen, you ask? Well, wax, like many other solids, shrinks when the temperature is lowered, thereby releasing itself naturally from its container. Buyer beware: while this technique is guaranteed to work on any Susquehanna Candle, it may not work on other candle brands’ votives.

When to hire a professional seo firm

In efforts to increase sales and profitability, more and more companies are turning to online marketing initiatives – specifically, search engine optimization. Search Engine Optimization or (SEO) is the art and science of blending technical and marketing skills together into a finely tuned website that is both search engine-friendly, ranks well for specific keywords and phrases, and is tailored to your audience from a buyer and seller perspective.

According to a recent U. S. study, only 20% of all businesses outsource search engine optimization programs to professional SEO firms. The remaining 80% either do not conduct search engine optimization at all or they believe they have the resources and skills to do it in-house. Of this 80%, it is probable that 90% of these companies can’t be found on the web – they don’t exist. In order to generate any amount of significant web visibility, your website must typically rank within the top-30 results.

So, the question comes down to what is in your company’s best interests?

Conduct your SEO program in-house or out-source it. To answer this question, let’s first take a look at the knowledge, skills and resources necessary to implement and maintain a successful search engine optimization program.

SEO knowledge and skills required

1) Basic understanding of how search engines and directories work.

This may seem overly obvious, but you would be amazed how many people do not understand how they actually work. This knowledge provides the foundation for your SEO program.

2) Website design

Although SEO is not completely a technical marketing process, it does require a fair amount of technical knowledge of what constitutes search engine-friendly web design. Certain web design elements can either help your search engine rankings or hurt them. You simply have to know which is which.

3) SEO experience

This is the most important and most difficult knowledge to obtain. If you have never implemented a SEO program, then you are in for a big surprise. Search engine optimization programs require a lot of research and are extremely time consuming. Most importantly, they require actual SEO experience. This means knowing what SEO strategies and tactics work and which ones don’t.

In-house vs. out-sourced SEO programs

If your company is considering conducting your search engine optimization program in-house, here are some questions to consider.

Who will be responsible for analyzing, developing, implementing and measuring the success of your SEO program?

Is this considered the role of your IT department, Marketing department or some other individual(s) within your company?

Do they have the time, knowledge, and resources to successfully implement and maintain your search engine optimization program? And do they really care if it works or not?

IT Department

Typically your IT department handles multiple daily tasks from trouble-shooting your company’s LAN or WAN to fixing the sales department’s laptops? Out of a busy IT person’s day, what priority and focus do you think he or she will commit to for your SEO program? And even if your IT department has some skills in web design or development, these skills make up only a small percentage of the knowledge required for a successful search engine optimization program.

Marketing Department

Typically, your marketing department juggles many marketing projects at once and faces strict completion deadlines. From handling new print collateral campaigns to getting ready for new product or service launches, marketing personnel’s time is spread very thin. In addition, how knowledgeable is your marketing department in the technical aspects of web design and search engine optimization? Do they have the time to become well-versed? Do they have sufficient internal resources? Often the answer to both questions is no, they do not.

Other individual(s) within your company

Ok, so the responsibility falls onto someone outside of your Marketing or IT department. Who will that be and why are they responsible for your SEO program? Providing these individuals with a new “project of the month,” will typically result in another check mark off of their monthly to-do list and frustration by top management of why their website is not producing any sales results.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense to try to leverage internal resources to maximize your company’s productivity and profitability – whenever possible. However, there must be a line drawn in the sand between knowing what your organization’s capabilities are and what they are not.

As you can see, there is more to search engine optimization than meets the eye. In order to implement and maintain a SEO program, you must acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources. This can be done by hiring a professional search engine optimization firm. Professional SEO firms have dedicated resources and experience to support your company’s web marketing initiatives. By leveraging their experience and know-how, your company can quickly and more efficiently implement a successful search engine optimization program.

Latest trend in end mills and cutting tools

title:Latest Trend in End Mills and Cutting Tools

author:Dave Butry

source_url:http://www. essayabc. com/articles/site_promotion/article_669.shtml

date_saved:2007-07-25 12:30:19

A new line of aluminum cutting end mills have recently been introduced to the mix. These tools are made from sub-micro grain carbide and are available in regular and long lengths. Additionally, they can be ordered uncoated or with a high performance zirconium coating. We have been marketing American made tooling on the internet and have been serving customers for over 2 years. We offer a full line of metal cutting tools such as…end mills, drill bits, threadmills, micro end mills, hand taps, NPT Pipe taps, S&D drill bits, and center drills.

End mills are fluted tools designed specifically for periphery and slot cutting applications. They can be used to machine steel, plastic, wood, stainless steel, aluminum and many other materials. They are sought after because of their precise ability to cut to exacting tolerances when utilizing a manual or CNC milling machine. A flute is simply a cutting edge, sometimes with a helix, sometimes straight, your application will determine which style you choose. Helical flutes pull the chips up, and out of the way, the cutter can then cut more freely reducing heat buildup and decreasing machine cycle times.

End mills can have a vast number of flutes. Most common in machine shops are 2, 3 and 4 flute tools. Four flute cutters give you four cuts per rotation and are preferred in profile milling applications. Four flutes are not as useful in softer materials because they do not provide enough space between the flutes to evacuate chips sufficiently, whereas the two flute cutters are not as durable in very abrasive materials. Therefore, two flute end mills are superior in softer more flexible materials and four or more flute cutters are generally preferred in very hard or abrasive materials.

When using an end mill to cut a slot in a work piece, it’s best to have a hole already in the part. That way the end mill will not have to cut to center. Kodiak cutting tools offers a wide variety of hss, cobalt and carbide drill bits for your slot starting needs. Also, a two flute end mill is the best tool for a slotting cut. When a 2 flute end mill is used, the chips are lifted out of the slot. If the chips don’t get up and out of the cutters way, the end mill will re-cut the chips causing premature failure. Additionally, if a four flute end mill is used, the chips may become lodged in the flutes causing the tool to break. Kodiak Cutting Tools offers a wide variety of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 flute end mills.

There's an old expression that says, "The only things certain in life are death and taxes."

Well that is not entirely true.

Now there's a new kid on the block...

Guaranteed Signups.

Guaranteed Signups provide new opportunities for marketers to get direct sign ups to their programs without the time consuming task of having to advertise or recruit new members themselves.

Here are some of the benefits:

1) You get a built in downline quickly and easily.

2) You can build a contact list and mail to them as long as the back office of your program allows you to do this.

3) You can develop a lead capture or splash page and create your own mailing list without little or no extra effort on your part.

There are many different kinds of guaranteed sign-ups.

For instance, you can purchase...

World Wide sign-ups

US sign-ups

Country targeted sign-ups

Incentivized sign-ups

Non incentivized sign-ups

Phone surveyed sign-ups

Non incentivized, phone surveyed sign-ups give you more bang for your buck and usually produce good results.

US sign-ups are high demand primarily because these people tend to purchase more.

The best of the bunch are phone surveyed sign-ups, they cost a bit more, but they are well worth the extra outlay.

Using Guaranteed Sign-ups for Your Members.

If you own a program with a large downline or database, you can purchase large blocks of sign-ups. This is a great way to provide instant downlines for your members. It helps motivate and excite them.

What Guaranteed Sign-ups Can and Cannot Do

All guaranteed signup programs work on the following basis...

Your program must have an option to join free, with the ability to upgrade to paid status.

Sign-ups will be sent directly to your site and, if the person is interested, they sign up as a free member.

For this point on it's up to you. You need to do the work of following these people up and give them reasons and incentives to upgrade

Do not expect a sign up to upgrade automatically. This won't happen unless you work your new contacts and nurture them. Let them know the benefits of your product and give them heaps of free information.

Sign ups to do not happen by magic.

A site that offers you sign ups is essentially doing the hard work of advertising for you and that takes time. So be patient.

Benefits of guaranteed signups...

You can share them with downline members

Do JV's with the suppliers and resell them

Fill you own program downline and work them to get new upgrades.

And the best part, the companies that supply them do all the work for you.

After preparing your list about keywords well, you should begin placing those keywords on your website. But, which part on the website should it be placed?

1. Title Tags

As you open a front page via the web browser, the Title tag would appear on the top of the front page as usual.

As for the search engine, the Title tag is vitally crucial. Comparing with other parts on the website, the part of search engine stands high proportion for the Title tag. So, to put keywords into this tag is the turning point of heightening the vision scale of search engine. Besides, the Tile tag would also appear on the searching result of search engine and then be hyper-linked to your website. Therefore, that the Title tag is described well or not relates to if browsers can be drawn attraction to click your website as choosing from numerous searching results. And Title tag is the first description that people can read as searching results are shown via search engine; thus, make the Title tag easier as possible as you can so that people can realize what your website is about.

2. Meta Description

Meta Description is kind of HTML tag and mainly used to describe the content of the front page. But these years the Meta tag isn’t arranged into the running rule of operation analyses because that isn’t as important as the Title tag. But we still suggest readers to compose the Meta tag because certain search engines would manifest the content of Meta tag in the searching results. That is to say, it can be the attraction for web browsers to click and read materials inside. Remember the description cannot be exaggerated; otherwise, as web visitors browse your website but find out the content isn’t like what you describe, he may recede soon.

3. Meta Keyword

The keyword tag isn’t that crucial as the Title tag and Meta description. But if correct keyword tags can be noted down, it may do good. As one types keyword tags, he should choose the keywords which relate to content of that front page to avoid surplus, irrelative or duplicate keywords. This tag won’t be read by people in common condition except for the search engine.

4. Headings

Headings are words placed between ----- in HTML tag and mainly prompt browsers what the main content is and for the search engine, it stands in the pivotal place for the search engine.

5. Context

The ratio of numbers of keywords to words on that front page is called keyword density. Your keywords should appear in the appropriate website content. When it comes to numbers of times and frequency, you can search for the keywords you want to optimize in the search engine and compile statistics about the density of top keywords on the website.

To protrude keywords on the website appropriately will be helpful for the ranking of website in search engine. But, excessively modifiers may be considered as Spam by the search engine.

Benefits of directory submission services

There are so many criterions that search engines follow to determine a site’s rank for certain key or search words. One of these includes links to the site. The page rank of a site is directly related to the number of links it has. The more links you have pointed to your site, with some variation of the key phrase you want to rank high for, the better ranking in the search engines you will receive.

Relationship between directory submissions and search engine rankings

One way links and search engine rankings have a great cause and effect relationship. Think of it as a business referral system. The business with the more referrals is most popular and hence, search engines rank them higher. The reason behind it, as many put it, is that the more links you have, higher are the chances of a visitor coming to your site through these links!

Again, the search engines send out spiders to the links they find in the directory pages. This will bring the search engine spiders to your site and will get your site pages added to the search engines indexes automatically.

In future, the new search engines will also follow the same procedure. Hence, you won’t have to register to them, rather they will find you themselves!

You can also improve your sales!

Again, many people actually do surf these directories to look for the things they want. So they will also act as a medium to bring in your prospective customer to your site.

Thus directory submission has three major benefits, which makes it indispensable tool of online marketing.

1. Higher Position In The Search Engine Results

2. Web Site Indexed

3. Click Through Traffic

So that is something one should focus on if they are interested in increasing the rankings and traffic of their site. Many sites who offer submission service, claim to submit your link in more than 75000 directories (mind you, few even claim the figure to be around 7,00,000!). But one should remember that submitting a link and getting it listed in the directory is not the same thing. It is like an auction, you don’t win merely by bidding. Others will just bid for you, but we at Submit2please. com, will make sure that your bid is a success. We will try our level best to insure a high rate of acceptance. We also assure you that the process will not be much time consuming and the results will start pouring in within a fortnight.

Eight simple ways to use promotional products online

With the increase competition on the Internet, it can be hard to find ways to make your company seem different from everyone else. One thing I believe Internet marketers are failing to utilize correctly is promotional products.

Promotion products are every day items that are printed with your company logo, slogan, web site address, or any other message you want to promote. The first thing that comes to most people’s minds are printed t-shirts… but there are many other items you can use to make your company stand out from the crowd.

The following are eight simple ways you can use promotional products on the Internet.

Promote Your Company's Website

This is the first thing that comes to most people’s minds when they think of how they should use promotional products. But some people over look this. Every item you choose to promote your business should include your web site address on it.

Find Promotional Items That Fit Your Niche

You can always find certain items that will compliment your type of business - items that you know your customers will use often! For Example: If you sell bicycles, it would be a good idea to include a free water bottle that has your logo on it every time someone purchases a bicycle. If you have an online drug store, you could give away pill organizers with your sites name and web address printed on them.

Free Contests and Drawings

A great way to get more people to sign up for your newsletter is to hold monthly, weekly, or daily contest drawings. The winner of the drawing would receive a promotional product with your URL on it. Since everyone loves to win stuff, more people would be willing to give you their email address. And if you make the product something that relates to your business, the people who sign up are more likely to be targeted.

Motivate Customer to Buy More

You can use promotional products to entice your customers to buy more products than they normally would have. How? By bundling multiple products a long with a promotional item. For example, instead of your customer buying 1 ebook, you also offer them a package deal of two ebooks and a free promotional item.

The promotional product can even be something related to the products you’re bundling it with. If you’re selling weight loss information, why not use a “step counter as a bonus? If you’re selling cookbooks, offer an apron. There are hundreds of products that you can put your logo on… find one that compliments your products!

Reward Your Best Affiliates

Consider thanking your top affiliates by giving them a promotional product. This shows them that you truly appreciate the fact that they promote your products. You can send gifts to your affiliate partners when they reach a certain goal, or you can give gifts to your top affiliates during the holidays. By rewarding your affiliates, you build a stronger relationship with them. They will thank you by continuing to promote your business.

Thank Your Loyal Customers

Just like thanking your top affiliates, you should also consider thanking loyal customers. You can express gratitude to customers that repeatedly by your products, customers who buy your high-ticket items, or both! Promotional items remind your clients that the relationship you share with them is important to you.

Create a Competitive Advantage

Because of increased competition, it's getting tougher than ever to compete online. You can use promotional items as a way to show your customers that you are different than your competitors. Instead of appearing as “just another company”, you can demonstrate that you are unique. When someone receives a promotional item from you they are more likely to remember you over your competition.

Promote a New Product

If you are launching a new product, you can capture your audience attention and publicize it by using promotional items. At the very least, you should send a promotional item to your top customers when a new product comes out. You might also want to consider sending items to your top affiliates too if you have a new product they can promote for you.

My goal is to get you to think of new ways to use promotional products. I hope you will implement some of the ideas I have laid out here and also brain storm different ways to use them. If used correctly, these little trinkets can help you say ahead of your competitors!

10 tips for writing effective web copy

title:10 Tips for Writing Effective Web Copy

author:Julia Hyde

source_url:http://www. essayabc. com/articles/site_promotion/article_179.shtml

date_saved:2007-07-25 12:30:19

On the Internet programmers and designers rule, not the writer. Yet words drive targeted traffic to your site, carry content, make the sale, convey marketing messages, persuade people to buy and make the difference between your site’s success or failure.

Here are 10 tips for writing effective web copy:

1. Make sure content is easy to read

In the online world, less is nearly always more. Write your copy for the impatient, online reader. Here are some guidelines for the length of your content:

Headings: 8 words or less

Sentences: 15 – 20 words

Paragraphs: 40 – 70 words

Page word count: 250+ words

Eliminate pompous words and fancy phrases. Effective online writing is not about impressing the reader with your extensive vocabulary. It’s about communicating. Use short, simple words. Get to the point. And then stop.

2. Write from me to you

The most powerful word in the English language is “YOU”. Write for your reader, in a conversational tone, not for your ego.

Get to know your reader. Is there a common style or tone you need to use to reach her? Don't forget, she’s come to your Web site to do something—make a purchase, obtain information, sign up for a subscription. Make sure every word you write moves her toward a solution.

3. Drive Actions With Content

Content is about getting the reader’s attention and keeping it. Content is about selling. Make sure your content is driving your customer’s actions. Then put that content on your home page.

4. Write for how people search

If you want your site to be found when people search the web, use words your target readers use. Before you begin to write, sit down and think carefully about the keywords you’re going to use. Then carefully weave those words and phrases into your copy. Here’s two Web sites that will help you find the right keywords and phrases for your site.

1. www. overture. com

2. www. wordtracker. com

5. Create Effective Headings

The heading is the most important piece of content you’ll write.

That’s because:

Internet users scan read and the first thing they read is your heading. If it doesn’t grab their attention, they’ll leave.

An effective heading can used in title tags (more about this later).

The heading can be placed on your home page as a link to content.

When writing headings:

Keep them to eight words or less

Include important keywords

Avoid the use of adjectives and prepositions (and, a, the, of).

Be clear and concise. Avoid wordy, wishy-washy phrases.

6. Write keyword-rich title tags

Title tags are a small piece of HTML code that appears in the top bar of your browser. “For example, “Acme Company Home Page.” Title tags, along with meta keywords and meta descriptions, are one of several important factors in achieving high search engine rankings.

Title tags appear in your site’s HTML code like this:

You can view a site’s title tag by clicking VIEW then SOURCE on your browser’s tool bar.

Because search engines use title tags to gather information about your Web site you need to think carefully about what words you put in the tag. Don’t be tempted to put your company name in the tag (unless you’re a well-known brand like Nike or Microsoft).

Instead put specific keywords relating to your business. For example, if you’re a California real estate company, you would want your company to appear in search engine results for searches on keywords such as “California Real Estate” or “Realtors in California.” So, you would use the keywords “California Real Estate” or “California Realtors” in your title tags. If you wanted to be more specific, or you prefer seeking business in a specific geographic area you would use keywords such as “Silicon Valley Real Estate” or “Silicon Valley Realtors.”

7. Provide links and connections

The web is about linking information. Make sure your site links your reader to other information and other sites link to you. Never make your Web site a dead-end. Some search engines, including Google, are based, in part, on their ability to find you from links on other sites

8. Write effective summaries, sentences and paragraphs

An effective summary is who, what, when, where, how. It’s about getting the information across in 50 words or less. Keep your summaries short and factual. Make sure they encourage your reader keep reading.

Remember, keep sentences to between 15-20 words. Paragraphs between 40-70 words. Make your first sentence grab your reader’s attention or they’ll move on.

9. Sell Benefits not Features

If you want your Web site to sell your product or service you must write about benefits and not about features. A feature describes a product or service. A benefit is what the user gains from using that product or service. Don't say, " Our duvets are warm and comfortable,” say “You'll be warm and comfortable in one of our duvets.” Tell your customers how your product or service will make them happier, sexier, healthier, wealthier. In other words focus on making sure every line of your copy is dedicated to what’s in it for them.

10. Edit. Edit. Edit. Then edit again

Mistakes in online copy are temporary and easily fixed, but by the time you’ve noticed your errors so have thousands of other people. Have two or three people proofread your text. Check it yourself for consistency in grammar, punctuation, capitalization, abbreviations etc. And finally, read it backwards—you’ll be surprised how many errors you’ll spot.

Before you start reading I want YOU to erase EVERYTHING you have learned about search engine optimization. I want YOU to erase everything BAD as well as GOOD, because with this report you will learn everything from scratch. Also before you begin, if you're NOT 100% serious about getting your website to the top of Google, don't read another word.

I promise you that this FREE report will be a turning point for you and your website. YOU will learn everything you need and more! I will teach those SO CALLED "secrets" that have helped people rank #1 on the major search engines and directories like Google, yahoo, msn, AOL, AltaVista, and more.

I am sure that by reading this report COMPLETELY and by giving a 110% EFFORT you will see a "way" that is incredibly powerful due to a few simple factors all working together. The end result is an explosive way to get your website on fire and drive non-stop traffic from all those search engines, THIS YEAR for FREE!

After working on the internet for many years I have concluded that EXPLOSIVE LASER TARGETED TRAFFIC is easy to receive but it’s a secret that the BIG DOGS are not telling us! Traffic is the secret to wealth and will make a product sell incredibly fast and be insanely profitable. To get this kind of traffic you must have a webpage that is ranked very well in the main search engines, that’s it! I have kept you long enough just to see if you are dedicated to REALLY turning your website and life around. Now without further ado I would like to give you a brief list of what I will cover in this report. Enjoy!

Choosing "THE" keywords to optimize for

On-page optimization

Getting Listed In Google in Under 24-Hours!

Off-page Optimization

Analyzing the Top Ranked Website on Google

How TO GET banned by Google!

These 6 simple courses are going to turn this report into pure gold for you. You should read one of these 6 courses EVERY day so that you can have enough time to "digest" all the information and put them to the test. Now today is DAY #1 and I will start with the first course on the list:

Choosing "THE" keywords to optimize for

1) The first step in search engine optimization is choosing the right keywords that you want to rank well for on the search engines. This is very easy to do nonetheless many webmasters FAIL HERE! Ok for this course I will be using a website about "jokes" as an example. First you need to use the very powerful keyword tool that Overture offers, you can see it here: http://inventory. overture. com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

2) Now the second step is to put "jokes" and search for it in the overture keyword tool. The results that I received are shown here:

Count Search Term

927525 joke

116589 funny joke

65099 blonde joke

60135 dirty joke

47577 joke of the day

38086 good joke

37347 yo mama joke

35360 joke online prank

30615 clean funny joke

As you can see there are thousands of searches done monthly using these keywords and by ranking well in search engines you can get all these visitors for FREE! Wait don’t get too excited and DONT try to rank for the keyword "joke" because if you search in Google for that keyword you will find out that there are more than 15 MILLION pages competing for that specific keyword! So what do you do? Well start small and target less competitive keywords to get some good traffic to begin with and then target the "BIG FISH"! Alright for example you can target the keyword "yo mama joke" which is searched for approximately 37347 times every month and YET there are only 310,000 pages competing for it! You CAN rank very well for this keyword and be on the FIRST page to receive more than 30,000 hits to your website every month. That’s 1000 visitors everyday for one keyword FREE!

3) We have chosen a keyword that is not very competitive but gets quite a lot of searches and it is "yo mama jokes". You can choose a few other keywords like "blonde joke" which has less than 1 million pages competing. And "joke online prank" with only 200,000 competitors.

4) Now take a few minutes to think of a keyword that is related to your website and repeat steps 1 to 3. It's easy and wont take more than a few minutes. Choose the right keywords and wait for lesson two!

WOW I must have you thinking now, what if you start competing for the more competitive keywords later and get even more visitors! Well you can once you master this and you will hit the million page views mark in no time. This won’t happen overnight nor will it happen in days. This will take weeks of hard work but the end result is EXPLOSIVE LASER TARGETED TRAFFIC for FREE.

"Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." - Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway's Billionaire Chairman)

Please don't pass over what I've told you so far without much thought. It took me years and thousands of dollars to finally pinpoint these simple ideas. Sometimes the simplest things that stare us in the face are the hardest to find. The single most important thing I've learned over the years is that simple makes money.

Take a few minutes everyday to read the courses and try them on your website. All this information is FREE so why not spend some time and learn it? You have nothing to lose.

Follow the simple instructions in every course and you’re done! Don't let the simplicity of this fool you. The power of this is IN the simplicity. 99% of webmasters don’t know this because of how simple it is. You have the opportunity to receive THOUSANDS even MILLIONS of EXPLOSIVE LASER TARGETED TRAFFIC with this simple report and do it all for FREE with just a little of work.

If you would like to contact me anytime and either complain (why would you!) or give me your testimonial then feel free to do so anytime. I'm there if you need any more help also.

Almost anyone who has tried submitting to free-for-all sites will say that they are no longer worth the effort as a traffic generating tool. Automated FFA submissions to "millions" of sites are also not that useful as most of these sites are only ever "visited" by automated submission scripts and not by human eyes. The only thing these auto submission tools achieve is to get your e-mail address bombarded with "confirmation" e-mail from the FFA page owners. Many unsuspecting users who submitted their personal e-mail address to these submission tools have suffered incredible frustrations because of the "spam" they receive. (Technically they are confirmatory e-mail that the submitters agreed to receive.)

However. one previous "victim" of confirmatory "spam" managed to turn the tables around with a very ingenious twist to the process. He basically submitted his web site using the FFA auto submission tools and agreed to get the "millions" of confirmatory email...but submitted an e-mail address that led to an autoresponder that replied back to these emails with a "thank you for your offer which I'm considering...please have a look at my web site in the meantime" type e-mail.

Incidentally, Outlook Express also has message rule function which we can use to achieve a similar effect. This is good because some autoresponder services do not allow their e-mail addresses to be submitted to FFA sites (do so at your own risk!). Simply click on "tools", "message rules", "mail", "mail rules", "new", "where the message is from the specified account"(the e-mail account you intend to receive confirmatory "spam" with), and "reply with message", then specify the message you want to reply with.

Don't forget to also freely distribute your e-mail address to multiple mailing lists, classified ads sites, and anywhere that is likely to get your address "spammed". The best part is when bulk e-mail address harvesters pick up your e-mail address and start selling it to other "spammers", you'll be promoting your site to many people with absolutely no effort on your part at all!

Have fun with this one.

3 tips for writing content that will make you sales

title:3 Tips For Writing Content That Will Make You Sales

author:Mike Cheney

date_saved:2007-07-25 12:30:19

Content is king. Without content your website is an empty shell, a skeleton with no flesh, an empty vessel. Content can redeem the worst designed website. The right content can make your phone ring off the hook and flood your inbox with people wanting your product or service. Content is the most important ingredient in the recipe for your website's success. If you have engrossing, valuable and relevant content you are onto a winner..

Tip 1 - Keep It Customer-Focused - What You Like Is Irrelevant

I land on the homepage. I want to buy a bathroom from this company. I want to know what bathrooms they have available. I want to know how much it will cost, when they can deliver, if they have any special offers and what their previous customers have said about them. Instead, upon landing on the homepage I get the following all-time classic;

"Welcome to ABC Bathrooms. Our company was formed in 1985. Our Managing Director John set up the company at the age of 25 after spending thirty years in the position of.."

Who cares?! I want to know exactly what you sell and how much it will cost me. I have 10 spare minutes today to find this information out and if I don't see it on your site in a few seconds I will click off to your competitors so don't bore me with the life story of your managing director. I do not care. Give me content that I like - not what you THINK I would like. Key difference.

Tip 2 - Sell Benefits, Not Features

Potential customers do not want to know how your product was built, how old the production manager is or what colour the wallpaper is in the production plant - they want to know how buying it will enrich their lives. They want to see evidence for the benefits of owning your product or using your service. People don't buy things - they buy benefits and they buy feelings. People buying a Ferrari are not buying a mode of transport they are buying prestige, luxury, envy, success - they are buying a symbol, a way of life.

Think about your product or service from a customer's point of view - what are the real, measurable and provable benefits to them of buying from you? Include these over and over in your content and it will bring more sales for you. Don't be afraid of blowing your own trumpet - stick the benefits right on the homepage for a start!

Tip 3 - Include Calls To Action - Everywhere!

Excellent - you've written killer content and people are coming back to your website time and again for the information. Your traffic figures are shooting through the roof. It's brilliant! You can't believe you've cracked it. And then you look at the number of orders placed last week - zero. Oh. What happened there? Better to have one person visiting your site each month who actually places an order or produces a sales lead rather than have 1000 people who do neither.

If you don't have clear benefit-focused calls to action peppered throughout your content people will not get in touch with you or place that all-important order. You hook them in with the winning content and then you offer them more information vial email or a free quotation if they phone you - anything! You must have calls to action present throughout your site - combine this with the other two tips and you are on the way to having content that actually makes you sales.
