article:

If there is one thing we have all suffered through is waiting for a site to download online. It seems like it is the worse thing in the world and will never end. We actually either click off of the site or after the initial download of the frontpage completes, we then click off of the site because the subpages take too long to load. We have all been here and this article is to help make sure your visitors don't go through it as well.

The reason why a websites speed of download is important is actually very simple and we have broken it down into two parts:

-The first part is that people want to get to where they are going quickly. This is pretty straight forward and now a days no one seems to have the time to wait for a site to download(no matter how important it is).

-The second part is to deliver the content to the user as quick as possible so that we can keep them interested and entertained. The quicker they can get to the information the more they will click around your site and the more they will interact with your website. This is extremely important if your website has it's own estore, as the more products your visitors are able to view then the more time they spend in your store and the better the chance you have of them purchasing something off of you. Pretty simple and straight forward.

Now you may be wondering how you can take your current design or your re-design and improve the performance of your website so it doesn't take forever for it to download. The truth is that it isn't too complex and actually anyone can follow these steps. Here are some tips on how to get your website to load faster and why these factors may cause long load times:

1. Tip one is to use regular html text instead of graphic text(such as exporting text from a program like fireworks or photoshop). The reason for this is that html text carries alot smaller kbs size when added to website design. So anywhere that you use regular text instead of "graphical text" will really help decrease your page size making the download time quicker for each user.

2. Tip two is to limit other graphics uses on your website where you can. Some things such as using a graphic for your logo can not be avoided but try to make an effort to limit the amount of graphics on each page. The more graphics you use the higher your page size will be and the more time it takes to download it. Really graphic intensive websites can have users waiting a while for everything to download. Some occasions where it might be ok to use graphics is if they will also be used on subpages. These graphics will already be cached on your visitors computers and will not have to be downloaded again when a person visits your subpages.

3. Tip three is to limit the use of flash. It can make your page take even longer to load as the kbs size of each file are usually quite larger then any graphics on your website. This can really increase download times and in alot of cases is not necessary.

4. The final tip is to try not to nest tables inside of each other. Try to break down your design and use multiple tables. This way each table will load separately giving your visitors something to view while the rest of your site loads. If you load everything into one table then they will have to wait for the whole main table to load.

Remember the key is to get your users to the information as fast as possible. If you follow this advice and apply these rules to your site, then there is nothing saying you can't have a quick loading and great looking website as well.

Find files on the hard disk faster

Another application that is downloadable or can be purchased from the internet is available to aid your usage of the computer most especially in locating your files. You might be in a business that requires you a multitude of recorded files in your laptop or desktop every minute of the day. Let us say a newspaper or a publishing company is your main business. There are bunches of diversified files forwarded to your networks of computer the whole time! Your hard disk is your electronic notebook where you store everything you have created or recorded. Once this hard disk is almost reaching its capacity, it means you have a whole lot of files in it.

Even if your files are rooted to specific folders or subfolders, confusion and time wasted are unavoidable. With assorted files like word document, excel, web pages and PDF, you will really need a helper in finding your desired file. Using the search function in your Windows application might give you similar keywords and might cause delay in your precious time. Similar file names or keywords are unavoidable. If this happens, you will still have to open each of those related files to be sure on what you are looking for.

With the assistance of an application to find files in the hard disk, you can just search the files by typing the keyword and it shows you results of the files with matching keywords highlighted. It is also possible for you to move or transfer the files in a folder of your choice for easier retrieval and visibility on your next search. And not only that, you will be seeing some updates too if there are changes with some of the files, like moving or relocating them. It is like a history list of the previous actions done with the files.

Nothing more is convenient with this functionality provided by technology. The applications allow you to find the files on the disk in various ways. You can make a general search or you can narrow it down into specific ones. If you are trying to find a certain folder, then all you have to do is find the folder.

But if you're not sure which folder the file is in, then choose to find the file in all directories or drives. Sometimes, for security purposes, you tend to hide files and unintentionally forget about them. The application can also help you find some hidden files in your disk. And if there are changes made in your files, your archive files are still searchable after the files were changed after a backup operation.

Well, you will really need this type of support most especially if you store up a huge number of data in your computer. From time to time, you also make some changes with the files without remembering the full details. So by learning that using a backup program or application in finding these files on the disk, you will be somehow reminded of the changes you have executed with out scanning the whole disk the whole time. Find what you are looking for in your hard disk using an assistant and save much of your time more than usual.

Implementing conference calls in daily business

If your business has been struggling to keep up the constantly changing needs of working life, perhaps it is time to start using technology to assist you in conducting routine business matters. You may want to consider eliminating some unnecessary elements of your business by modifying the current work habits of your office. One way in which this can be achieved is by using audio conferencing or conference calls.

Conference calling today has revolutionized the manner whereby organizations conduct business all over the world. It has effectively eliminated face-to-face interaction from personal meetings and large group conferences, with the telephone being the all-in-all. If you have three or more people that need to meet, review sales, order products, or submit departmental reports, you can now do so without having to venture outside to meet with them. And they can too! Conference calls allow you to conduct your business on a private and secured line through what is known as a conference bridge that can be accessed by users only.

You will no longer have to stress about getting late for a meeting, nor will you have to fly in your clients or prospects to make timely decisions. Conference calling and audio conferencing is an extremely effective way to join forces with your global marketplace without even thinking of going out of the office, or using the expense account. Conference calling has become very appealing today for businesses that are attempting to save money, and yet maintain the necessary and critical relations with their clients.

There are many ways in which you can use conference calling to your advantage. You can use operator assisted programs if the meeting involves multiple people. This allows you to conduct your meeting hands free by using a moderator. You also have the option of having your callers dial in and listen to a pre-recorded seminar or meeting. This might be very effective in selling your business to a large group of listeners. You can also have your participants dial in at a specified meeting time, and conduct a comprehensive telephonic discussion or meeting in a manner very similar to that might have taken place in person.

The benefits of putting in place a conference call system in your business are primarily the convenience you have to conduct business without wasting time and money in traveling. This will ultimately ensure that your business saves both time and money, and as a result, experiences increased productivity. With less time being wasted everyday, you gain more productivity time for your business.

Website design basic concepts

article:

So, what's in a website design anyway? And, how do you get a design that is appealing to the broad and varied tastes of all those Internet surfers out there?

This is critical. Your website design is the first impression you make on your customers and visitors. There are a few sites in my favorites and bookmarks that I consider poorly designed. I still have them, because they have information I want. Lucky for the site owner that their content was that good! But one day I will find another site with the same information and a better design. Then guess who will be in my favorites and who will be left out? Maybe your content is great too, but don't take chances on a poor design. Think how much more repeat traffic and referred traffic you will get if you have both great content and great design.

Design Taste Varies - OK, design is a matter of taste and target audience to some degree. What looks good to one visitor may not be so great to another. Here we have the old adage of "one man's trash is another man's treasure". But there are solid basics that go into good site design. Creating a distinctive visual style and applying it consistently is the best way to bind a series of subjects and web pages together.

Layouts - The layout of your site is an important design element. A webpage is a document, plain and simple. It is like formatting a letter, an outline, a report, or an advertisement. Establish a layout grid and a style for handling your text and graphics, then stick with it to build a consistent rhythm and unity across all the pages of your site. Make it easy to follow, pleasing to the eye. Learn to use tables and nested tables, lists, and even well designed frames for controlling layouts.

Color - Color has a lot to do with target audience as well. What appeals to a teenager may not work with a target audience of baby-boomers, and so forth. But anybody can appreciate color coordination. Color coordination can be learned. Yes, it's a lot easier if you have a natural "knack" for these things, but you can learn basic color coordination techniques that make the difference between "tacky, yuk!!!" and "soothing to the eye".

Safe Colors - Everyone does NOT have 16 million colors on their computer. Learn to use the websafe 216 colors. Notice that's 216 colors, not 256 colors. This is a matter of video card capability and you are at the mercy of the viewer's personal computer system. Your best bet is to stick to 6 x 6 x 6 bit color resolution (216 colors) to cover the majority of Internet users. The 216 color palette gives you plenty for design options. Sure, not as many as 256 colors or 16 million, but still plenty to accomplish what you want or need to do with color.

Page Load Time - Now I'll be the first person to admit that I have made *personal* web pages which have large graphics or music. wav files and other things that take awhile to load. The point here is, they are my personal websites, *not* my professional or commercial websites. I may use these long loading pages for demo-ing several techniques, or chatting with friends and other developers, but never never never for professional site design (unless my client insists, in which case I do not use their site as a demo to other potential clients!). This doesn't mean you have to give up everything on professional sites. It just means take it easy, use only one high-load-time element or two, learn to compress your graphics properly, and if you've got that much "stuff" then break it up into more than one page.

Don't Overdo IT - A typical mistake among developers is to overdo it when putting together a website. Try to use extras in moderation. Some common things that get overused are:

graphics

background images

bevels and other graphic tricks

excessive frames

text scrolling, animated. gif's, page fade-ins

Too much of something just comes off as being "cutsie", tacky, or unoriginal...but used properly it can add just the right touch. Learn to use things that compliment your site's content, and not to overdo it with extra techniques and tricks.

Readability - Make your pages as easy to read as possible. Black text on a white or off-white background is the easiest to read. There are plenty of hard-to-read pages that use backgrounds the same shade as the text (dark text on a dark background and light on light), or what I call the "neon" look with bright color on bright color.

Learn to use the <font face="FirstFontChoice, SecondFontChoice, sans-serif"> tag and give your readers a font that's easy on the eye. I always think it's such a shame to see a site full of great content and then left in the default Times New Roman font. Use a sans-serif font - arial and verdana are good choices, then put "sans-serif" generic font in your last html tag attribute to cover anyone that may not have a specific font you listed as a first choice or second choice.

Browser and Monitor Compatibility -. Learn to make your web pages compatible with both Microsoft Internet Explorer(IE) and Netscape Navigator. After preparing a site, test it in both browsers and ondifferent screen sizes or resolutions. Typical figures are 80% of Internet users are on the IE browser, 80% using 800 x 600 resolution, and most on a 15" or 17" screen....but, can you really afford for your site to look poor to 20% of the market? The answer is NO. Make your site compatible with both browsers and take that silly "best viewed with..." graphic off the site! Furthermore, use alt tags in your graphics for people who surf with images turned off, or on smaller browsers which don't support them.

Using Java - Personally, I like Java and use it in site design. However, you have to remember many people turn it off for one reason or another. Or they may be using a browser that doesn't support it. Therefore, if you use a java driven menu (quite popular nowadays), you better have some alternate navigation.

Photoshop video tutorials on file formats

Photoshop files themselves can’t be embedded into a web page. You will need to export your file and save it in a web-friendly format. There are three formats for web graphics: JPEGs, GIFs and PNGs.

JPEG:

The JPEG format (pronounced “jay-peg”), works best with photographic images or images that have more than 256 colors and gradients, such as the flowers.

Images saved in JPEG format are compressed, which means that image information will actually be lost, causing the image to degrade in quality.

JPEG Quality:

Changing the value in the Quality drop-down box alters the level of compression for the image. Reducing the quality may result in blurring or pixelation, but too high a setting will produce a large file that will take users too long to

download.

A good approach is to decrease the quality value gradually until you notice the degradation of your image becoming unacceptable. A reasonable compromise will be somewhere around this point.

GIF:

The GIF format (pronounced “jiff” or “giff” depending on which side of the tracks you grew up) can have a maximum of 256 colors.

GIF files support transparency and animation, and work best with graphics that have large areas of the same color.

PNG:

The PNG format (pronounced “ping”) is similar to the GIF format in that it supports transparency and works best with solid-color images, but it’s superior to the GIF format as it has the ability to support true levels of transparency

for colored areas.

Transparent PNGs are currently not in widespread use on the Web because older versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer do not support them; however, they’re often used in Macromedia Flash movies. PNGs can produce a better quality image at a smaller file size than can GIFs.

Photoshop allows you to save an image as a PNG-8 file (which works the same way as a GIF would with 256 colors) or a PNG-24 file (which allows for millions of colors as well as variable transparency).

GIF/PNG-8 Colors:

Adjusting this setting reduces the number of colors used in any image. This will usually make the biggest difference in the final image. dither amount and type (No Dither, Diffusion, Pattern, Noise)

This setting has nothing to do with being nervous or agitated. Dither refers to a compression technique in which the pattern of dots is varied to give the illusion of a color gradient. Changing the dither will result in a more noticeable degradation for images that involve a large number of colors blended together.

The effects of fax transmission on bar code decoding

When documents containing bar code symbols are faxed, the quality of the bar code symbol will degrade. Documents scanned by fax machines in Standard Resolution are sampled with 204 horizontal dots per inch and 98 vertical dots per inch. Each sample point is then converted to either a white or black value (a process known as binarization). The binarization process converts straight lines of the bar code symbols into ragged lines changing the width of the bars and spaces. If a faxed document is itself resent out as a fax, further deterioration occurs. Each additional fax cycle continues to degrade the bar code. At some point, the symbol may no longer be able to be decoded by bar code decoding software.

The remainder of this article will discuss the issues that should be considered when selecting bar code symbologies and sizes to increase the likelihood of successful decodes after multiple fax cycles.

Linear (1D) Symbologies

Two popular 1D symbologies were examined: Code 128 and Code 39. Code 128 uses four bar and space widths to encode information, while Code 39 only uses two. Thirteen module sizes (smallest element) ranging from 12.5 mil to 32.5 mil of each symbol type, encoding ten numeric digits, were printed on a sheet. The sheet was sent through a fax at Standard Resolution for a total of ten cycles. This corresponds to a horizontal sample per module ranging from 2.6 to 6.6. The resulting 11 pages were then scanned on a flatbed scanner at 300 samples per inch and were presented to a bar code decode software toolkit. At 2.6 samples per module both bar code symbologies were only able to be successfully decoded for 3 faxes while the same codes with 6.6 samples per module were still readable after 10 faxes.

The larger samples per module (6 samples and greater) were able to successfully decode after 10 fax cycles. At 5.6 samples per module, the decode performance was no better than 4.6 pixels per module. This demonstrates that each fax cycle alters the bar code in a subtle way. Every fax cycle produces a unique version of the original bar code, and each alteration can make a symbol that did not read after a certain number of fax cycles read on the next one. However, if high read rates are desired after many fax cycles, then printing the bar code symbols at a minimum of 6 samples per module is recommended.

From the testing conducted, Code 128 slightly outperformed Code 39 after multiple faxes. Given the higher data density of Code 128 and the built in checksum, Code 128 appears to be a better choice between the two symbologies. The images below show the size advantage of Code 128 over Code 39, with both symbols encoding 10 numeric digits with the same module size. If the data to be encoded is purely numeric, the numeric compaction mode of Code 128 can be used to further increase data density.

There is a trade off to consider: the larger the module size of a linear code, the more horizontal room will be required to encode the same amount of information, but the larger modules sizes can improve read rate. One additional factor to consider is the bar code height. For this test, all the codes were Ѕ inch in height. Given that all vertical information in 1D bar codes is by definition redundant, if space allows, increasing the height of a bar code will typically provide better read rates after multiple fax cycles.

Matrix (2D) Symbologies

Matrix symbologies provide dramatically better information density because information is encoded in both horizontal and vertical directions. Given their size advantage over their linear counterparts, 2D symbols can be printed with much larger module sizes and still be comparable to linear symbols encoding the same information. For the 2D test, we printed various sizes of Data Matrix and Micro QR Codes. The Data Matrix was a 12 x 12 module square symbol. The Micro QR is a more space efficient version of a QR code that employs only one finder pattern and is limited to a number of smaller sizes. The symbols were encoded at a comparable level of error correction. The module sizes varied from 39 mil to 79 mil. Like the 1D test, we subjected the image to 10 fax cycles and then scanned the images. The images were scanned at 150 samples per inch given the large feature sizes of the test bar codes. The scanned images were then processed by the same bar code decoding toolkit.

At 8.7 samples per module the 2D bar codes were able to be read after 5 fax cycles and once 15 samples per module were reached the codes were readable up to 10 cylces.

The results were not as consistent as the 1D symbols. This is due to the fact that the distortion of the symbol during the increasing number of fax cycles affects data in both the data dimensions. However, we can draw the conclusion that symbols with larger size modules will decode more reliably after multiple fax cycles.

Summary

If documents containing bar code symbols are to be faxed multiple times, the bar code symbols must be printed with larger module sizes to be successfully decoded.

For linear symbologies, if a large number of fax cycles (greater than 5) is required, the number of samples per module should be at least 6. Code 128 performed well in our tests and has a higher data density than Code 39. Linears are a good choice for encoding small amounts of data.

For larger data requirements, 2D symbologies such as Data Matrix, provide good decode performance after faxing if larger module sizes are used. They provide the added benefit of reducing the amount of real estate required in the application document due to their superior data density.

As the fax machine dies

Have you ever found yourself wondering how offices ever functioned or operated without the use of the fax machine? Today this technology is so common in every workplace that it has become of the essence. A business without a fax machine in today's world would be the equivalent of a middle-class family that avoids using a telephone. Communication would be slow, at best, and any business attempting to forego this expense, would very quickly lose out as rivals edged them out.

Today the fax machine isn't just a fax machine, and technology is not stopping its expansion to bring newer communication methods into the business sector. The fax machine should soon become as outdated as the record turnstile. Why is this? Because the Internet has launched a global revolution that is making it possible for every organization to let their work go on the net. That's right. Services and products are expanding at such lightening speed, that even something as simple as sending a fax may be carried out by simply clicking on a mouse.

Online faxing is a means of using the Internet and your email and their corresponding attachments to send out faxes to distant clients. Like an ISP, you must get a user ID with an online fax service to get your fax number. Once you have installed the necessary software (software, not equipment) you can fax directly from your computer in quite the same way as you would from your fax machine.

This mode of faxing is so revolutionary that many businesses want more of this technology. The convenience and simplicity that online faxes offer is being so highly appreciated that fax machines have to pack up and leave now. Moreover, many cellular phone providers are offering the same service so that you can use your cell phone as a hand-held wireless browser and send faxes from it. Imagine sitting in traffic wondering how you will reach on time. This stress could be eliminated if you fax your project over by pressing "send" on your mobile phone.

The advantages of online faxing have been multiplying. Your business will no longer require the expense or bulk of an extra phone line. Gone are the days of hold signals, wrong numbers, or busy signals. The mobility of Internet faxing makes faxing as easy as ABC. And ultimately, when you weight the costs of your fax machine and annual phone bills, Internet and online faxing has to be a great solution to all kinds of business communication issues.

Domain registration how to register a new domain name for your website

article:

Domain names are site names that provide rememberable names to stand in for numeric IP addresses. Before getting a web site on line you need to have a domain name. These are the familiar web addresses such as yahoo. com that most browsers use to find a particular web site. Domain names, in fact, are pointers to a particular IP address and we use them because they are easier to remember than a series of numbers. The Domain Name System (DNS) is a system that stores information associated with domain names in a distributed database on networks, such as the Internet. The DNS is what makes it possible to attach hard-to-remember IP addresses (such as 193.456.28.8.) to easy-to-remember domain names (such as "web-hosting-guide. org")

All websites have an IP address in the form 193.456.28.8. The domain name system translates these numbers into names such as google. com. All domain names are registered in a central registry maintained by InterNIC, a subsidiary of ICANN - the organization which certifies domain name registrars. Domain names are filtered through Domain Name Servers (DNS) which link IP addresses with domain names. Each web site usually has a primary and a secondary DNS – duplicates that increase reliability.

The first step in registering a domain name is to choose it. The name can be almost anything you want, but to be most effective it should reflect the nature of your website. If you are selling scented candles, for example, it helps to have a domain name that has some reference to candles – scented-candles. org. uk for example.

The rules for domain names are simple – only letters, numbers or hyphens are allowed. Other than that, a domain name is limited to 70 characters, but you are advised to keep it as short as possible. Domain names can be upper or lower case – case is ignored by DNS but you can use a combination to make the name more recognizable. Since DNS is case-insensitive, yahoo. com can be advertised as YAHOO. COM.

Every domain name ends in a top-level domain (TLD) name, which is always either one of a small list of generic names (three or more characters), or a two characters territory code. There are several extensions available. The most common is. com - it has even entered common vocabulary as a way to express Internet activity – (I own a dot com business). Other extensions include. biz (for commercial sites),.org (for non-commercial organisations),.net (for organisations involved in Internet infrastructure) and. name (for personal names). There are also extensions with more specialized uses such as. museum,.aero, and. coop and are used exclusively by members of certain organizations. In addition to these common extensions, there can also be a country code extension such as. us (United States) or. uk (United Kingdom). The rules for using country extensions vary, so you need to check with your registrar to see if they are available to you.

All domains must be registered with a registrar that has been certified by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). There are hundreds of registrars and their prices vary considerably. Although registrars are closely regulated, they are permitted to offer their services through third parties; so many web hosts offer a domain name registration service even if they are not a registrar. The price of a domain name will usually be higher when dealing with these third-party services.

Domain names are usually registered for a minimum of one year, although you are permitted to buy up to a 10-year registration contract. Usually the longer the registration contract, the lower the price, so if you are sure you will be on the web for a considerable length of time you can benefit from a longer registration period. Most registrars also offer a discount on bulk purchases. If you own a number of domain names you can save money by transferring them all to the same registrar.

Firefox and its advantages

So you have decided to download Firefox and are wandering what the advantages it could have over the famous Internet Explorer? The first advatage is obviously the fact you can download and save the instalelr anytime you need to use it. Another advantage is the actual file size and amount of time it takes to install Firefox. There is also the fact that when you choose to install Firefox you can either allow it to transfer all of your favorites, saved web pages, cookies, plus much more. However if you’re not sure what you want installed then you also have the choice not to set them up at that time.

Another advantage to Firefox is the Firefox Safe Mode feature, with this feature you can decide whether or not to disable add-ons, reset toolbars and controls, reset bookmarks to firefox defaults, reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults, and restore default search engines.

When this happens you will notice that tabs button is gone, and you will have a selection of choices. The first is customize links, then Free Hotmail, My Yahoo, Windows Marketplace, Windows media, Windows at Microsoft. com, and Yahoo Bookmarks. At the top of the browser you will see the basic File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and the Help menus, however what you might not notice is that the Help menu has Help contents, For IE users, Release notes, Report Broken Websites, Report Web Forgery, Check For Updates, and about Mozilla Firefox. It is the Help Contents and For IE Users that I want to talk about though. The Mozilla Firefox Help is an extensive and extremely useful help menu. Yes IE has a help menu but once you have looked around in the Mozilla Firefox Help menu you will see that there is a huge difference. While the For IE Users breaks down how to use Firefox as easily as you once did IE and hopefully even easier than that in the near future.

Firefox also supports the following standard softwares; CSS, DOM, DTD, ECMAScript (also known as JavaScript), HTML, MathML, PNG, SVG, XHTML, and XML. You can also use the WHATWG program.

Likewise it supports and guides users to learn new skills and applied knowledge with regards to website creation.

Also, there are relatively more home page creator tools you can find online that enable you to create graphical websites the way you want, and it would be to your best benefit if you stick to the guidelines when choosing which tool to go for:

1) It has to be user-friendly and functional.

2) Necessary accessories (these are the bits and pieces needed in website creation) should be there too such as images and graphics, editing applications, html generator and the likes.

3) Ready-made templates that you can use for your website or homepage at that, enabling you to come up with the right image that you want your website to sport.

Comparing pdf documents with compare pdf

To learn about the changes made in file whether the changes are correct, you will need to compare files word-by-word. The need for a tool that could perform this task with ease arose when documents with multiple versions existed and when there was a need for identifying the differences in similar files little differences. Also, ability to compare files was developed for files that had a common antecedent. It is useful in a case you have two versions of the same document. This utility came to the market in the form of Compare PDF 2.0 that allowed comparison by keywords that helped people to compare unrelated documents. Differences could not be pointed out without using such a tool. Comparison by keywords is helpful in case you want to learn what changes were made in the common context of the document. For example you can learn what the key difference between documents was or what the focus of both compared files was. You can have two unrelated documents which can be quickly viewed and analyzed by keywords.

Compare PDF aims at helping you find out whether documents are similar and spot the differences between the two. By identifying the mostly used keywords in both files you can learn about the topic and focus of the documents. Compare PDF can be used for several types of comparisons such as by characters, words and keywords. You can also perform folder comparison by using the folder comparison function. By using this function attempts to find differences for all files stored in compared folders. Compare PDF inspects folders and subfolders for files with same names and compares them and can display results by creating a report. Compare PDF also presents functions for many types of comparative analysis like finding changes, checking for reflected changes, and identifying the document's focus.

The Compare PDF tool can be used to compare software file character by character to find changes in the word and highlights changed characters by software engineers or web masters. The added, deleted and modified characters are color coded for easy identification. It can also be used to find common idea of two texts, when need to find the focus of each document, key word by keyword by Legal, health care, education, finance professionals. Unique and common keywords are color coded for easy identification. It can also be used by professionals for comparing two files word by word when documents have a common ancestor. Added, deleted and modified words are color coded.

Compare PDF supports all these types of comparisons. You can compare files by characters, words, and keywords. After running Compare PDF select the required comparison type in drop down menu. You can also automate compare and integrate Compare PDF with other software products by using the command line. A comparative report makes comparison of two files effective. You can easily draw comparison details to a structured report. Report enables you to easily communicate with your colleagues and share knowledge. PDF Compare tool is a handy tool to get rid of any possible problems with PDF documents.

Signature capture

Have you ever used an electronic signature pad? Chances are that if you have made a credit card purchase at a retail outlet that the answer to this question is yes. After all, most stores have made this a practice in order to make sure that they are doing everything to code. When it comes down to it, a signature capture is very important for a lot of businesses. Even if this is a pain in the neck for some customers, signature authentication and capture is more important than most people will ever realize.

When you buy a signature capture device you will receive several items. The first thing that you will notice is the tablet that customers will actually write on. This will come with a USB cable that is used for connectivity purposes. In addition to the tablet, you will also receive a pen as well as a CD. Make sure that you keep all of these items in good working shape, and that you know what each one can do for you.

So how much is a signature capture device going to set you back? This is a common concern among a lot of people. Believe it or not, you can purchase one of these for approximately $500. While this may seem like a lot of money, it should last you for quite some time. And if you only need one device, this price does not seem too bad at all.

Overall, signature capture and verification devices are common in retail outlets and stores of all kinds. You are probably well aware of how to use one of these if you shop with a credit card on a regular basis. And of course, if you own your own store there is a good chance that you have either purchased one of these in the past or you will be doing so in the near future.

How to hire a web designer programmer for your website

Why hire a designer or a programmer?

You might ask this question yourself when there are 100’s of easy to build software on the internet. But building a website yourself and a professional designer makes a lot of difference. The designer put in years of expertise in building your website. He knows all the web standards as well as a professional look after it is done. Apart from that business owners don’t find time and patience in maintaining and promoting the site. Since the business person is occupied with this own business needs. What are the important aspects while choosing a website designer/programmer?

1) Check the credentials of the designer, is he reliable or will the designer will leave half way of your project. Check with the designer previous employer or clients. They could give you a good feedback on it.

2) Choose the designer carefully going through the previous work or portfolio. Don’t go ahead with the designer unless seen the designer portfolio. Viewing the portfolio you will get an idea what kind of quality and professionalism you can expect from him.

3) Next step after you are satisfied with the designer is asking for a proposal from him. Ask the designer is there any kind of terms and conditions before starting the project. If so make sure does that work for you too. Some designer may ask for a upfront for the project usually it is 25-40% of the entire cost of the project. Ask the designer what mode of payment he would prefer.

4) Once the terms and conditions are fixed then go ahead and ask for a prototype of the website.

5) Once the designer comes up with the prototype ask for revision unless you get satisfied and think this is what you where looking for.

6) Finalize the website and go ahead upload on to the server.

Follow these steps and increase your chances of successfully hiring a web designer/ web programmer who meets your needs and those of your project.

Web design for newbies content sells and sells again

Web design!

Before a few weeks ago, when I heard those words, they went into my "other" category!

"Other" people, with "other" educations, with "other" minds -- brilliant minds, unlike mine (!) -- were the designers of webpages.

Certainly NOT me!

But that was before I ran across a simple process that taught me to do it myself!

This process claimed that I could develop a website.

They claimed it took "no prior web technical experience."

Sounds like so much fluff, doesn't it?!

But here I am, a few weeks later, a new website (of my own!!), with 45 pages of content! And more to come!

And guess what? It makes money. No, not millions(!) in 3 days, like a lot of websites claim. But certainly, slowly and steadily, I've built a website that will return profits.

All by following a simple plan, spelled out step by step, that even I (with a basketball coaching degree, no less!) have been able to follow.

I'm still wondering if I've really done this.

The best plan for making a website is to write VERY GOOD content for your visitors.

If you're just out to make money, to gouge customers, etc., then you're going to be smelled out! Web users are savvy!

You've got to deliver a superior product about an area that you know something about, and provide, along with your information, resources for your readers to use.

They have to feel that they are important... And they better be important to you! Keep the focus on the visitor, or they'll click you off!

The problem is, most people don't know how to write good content for web users! (Not to mention they don't know how to do all the technical stuff!) And I didn't either!

I had to learn.

Another thing: How do I get people to come? I mean, it wasn't like I could build a store on a busy corner, put out a big flashing sign ("Eat at Bob's!!"), and wait for people to show up!

I had no idea how to get people to come to a website!

Lucky for me, I learned this technique as well.

And I can't believe it, but people are starting to come. At first only a trickle... but then more and more.

And I had to learn how to get listed with search engines, and directories. You can't just expect people to stumble across your website! They've got to find you by finding you when they search!

So these are big issues if you're going to develop a website!

Unfortunately, they're tough things to learn on your own! There are people out there who know these things, but their services are expensive...

Or, I could have tried to learn it all on my own, the old-fashioned way, by trial and error... but that would take hours and hours and hours.

And besides, I wasn't looking for a way to learn to design a website anyway!

So here, in a nutshell, is what I've learned:

1) I must OVERdeliver, and OVERinform with the content of my webpages. If there's no value in my content, people aren't going to stick around.

What people are really looking for on the web is information, and they want to find the information they're searching for.

So when they type in a keyword and get a page of fluff that's just trying to sell them something, they are immediately turned off.

But...

When they come to your website, and they find not only the info they are searching for, but much more... and helpful links to other valuable websites -- Well, they stand up and applaud you!

That creates devoted visitors who return.

2) This kind of content also makes them trust you. You are credible in their eyes.

3) Then (and ONLY then) will they trust you when you recommend a product!

And then, with a quick click on a link on your site, they go to the product or service or information that you want them to find. And often they respond with the very thing you want -- a purchase!

One last thing: It actually took work on my part to design my own website. And I'm still learning, and still working!

Promises that you'll get rich quickly and with no effort are empty ones!

But writing excellent content works!

And if I did it, I know YOU can!!

Laptops are getting smaller and smaller

When you think of portability many people believed that you would not be able to get the power and functionality as compared to a desktop system, today is not true. Desktops are the preferred computer because of the ability to add peripherals and the power are much more than a laptop, but today laptops are able to add peripherals and have the computer power and have the ability to snap into a docking station which emulates a desktop. That has now changed and laptops are becoming affordable, light weight, faster and the ability to add many peripherals via USB.

Laptop computers are great portable offices, and as technology increases and speeds of computers increase, we are seeing battery life also increase and provide longer usage time with out the need to be plugged in. An extra battery is always a wise purchase when buying a used laptop. The batteries on many systems only last for about 2 years so if you get more life out of the battery you are one of the lucky ones. Battery life varies with the efficiency of the processor, so check out battery life in any reviews you read. When looking at the weight of the laptop don’t forget to add in the weight of the battery chargers and other accessories, this should be included in the weight of the laptop.

Manufactures are able to create tiny screens, even as small as 8 inches, this size screen is great for portability, but many people are finding that the fonts and images are to small and to use they need to start squinting. The size of the screen is also important. When looking at laptops look at the hinges of the screen and make sure they are strong and do not look like they would crack or separate from the laptop. Every so often you need to clean your screen and get the dust out of your keyboard, make sure you handle the screen carefully because the screen is fragile and can break easily.

Wireless is the wave of the future, so when looking to purchase a laptop make sure you get one with wireless built in. To use the wireless you will need a wireless router at home. This is always good to remember if you are using a wireless system make sure you make it secure so no one can steal your data or use your wireless system.

There is a variety of different types of memory, and it is important that you choose memory that is compatible with your notebook computer. Many computer owners don’t like to upgrade because of many reasons: they do not have the knowledge, fear of voiding the warranty or ruining their computers and some people don’t know what to order, or by opening the computer they might break the system and need to pay more to get it fixed. Like a lot of things in life, a computer memory upgrade seems more complicated than it actually is.

With today computers having the ability to add many peripherals be sure that the laptop comes with many USB ports to add devices like a mouse, printer, digital camera, etc.

If you are on tight budget, buying a refurbished laptop is a great idea. Many manufactures have refurbished laptops and will sell them at a reduced price which will save a lot of money. Many of the refurbished laptops even come with warranties.

Optimize your photos for the web

It doesn’t matter if your emailing photos of your grandson or putting images of your latest product on your online store. Too many people don’t consider optimizing their photos for the web. We’ve all been on too many web pages where it seemed that the photos would never load, and sometimes they didn’t. So here are some steps to make sure that your photos show up on your site.

1. Always have a back up original format copy of your image. Never alter the original. Believe me you will regret it.

2. Crop to size. Make sure that you crop out any extra information that isn’t needed. Remember the larger the photo the longer it takes to load or send.

3. Resize to reduce pixels. There should be an option to resize according to pixels. You’re going to want the largest size to be no more than 250 pixels or you can reduce the dpi to no more than 96.

4.Reduce the color palette. Many images have millions of colors so the first thing that you need to do is reduce the colors to 256. You will lose some depth with this.

5. Save the file in a standard format. JPEG is the most common for photos and you can compress the image with a JPEG for further reduction in file size. It’s not unusual to see GIF or PNG as well.

Remember that with a 56k connection a 150k file will take 20 seconds to load. If you’re creating a web page every photo that you add will add to the time it takes to download all of the images. If you keep the images small in size the smaller resolution will not be as obvious.

Managing it projects theory or practice

Information Technology, and the development of business computer systems, is relatively new, by which I mean less than 50 years old. I started in this business in the early 1960s and was involved in the replacement of punched card tabulator systems with punched card computer systems (such as IBM 1400s).

As the technologies grew more sophisticated (eg disks, bigger memories and compilers) so the systems we developed became much more complex. As the IT industry grew, so did the numbers of programmers, analysts and operators working within it.

These were mostly very bright people, skilled and inventive but with often little appreciation of the needs of business. The wheel would be reinvented countless times in many different ways and there were as many different ways of structuring computer programmes as there were programmers doing it!

It was out of this that system development methodologies arose. These early methodologies were often developed by the major hardware manufacturers and management consultancies and were intended to be templates for development. Some were good, some were truly awful. Some were concise and some, like SSADM, were massively overblown and became the “tail wagging the dog”. Inevitably, the overblown ones became adopted by governments all over the world, adding massively to the cost and timescales of IT development in the 1980s without significantly improving overall quality.

The advent of databases (relational, hierarchical, etc) added to the complexity and made ever larger development projects the order of the day. This was partly the trigger for the emergence of project management methodologies because IT project management was frequently assigned to systems analysts and programmers with massive technological skills but little in the way of organisational skills.

The management consultancies quickly saw commercial opportunities and we saw a plethora of proprietary project management methodologies but it was the UK government’s CCTA which broke the mould and launched PROMPT – an almost workable methodology for IT project management. This was developed, firstly, into PRINCE and then into PRINCE2, which is good and has become widely adopted.

It is not unreasonable to regard PRINCE2 as the benchmark for project management methodologies and it does, indeed, provide a route map. I use it routinely in most of my projects, but it begs the question:

Does using a good methodology make me a good project manager?

It certainly helps but project management is more than just the mechanics of the process. It is about interpersonal skills, stakeholder awareness, presentation to management and understanding your rules for winning. In other words, it is a blend of theory and skills.

My eBook Project Skills looks at many of the issues involved and tries to meld theory with practical advice. You don’t have to work in the industry for 30 years, but it sometimes helps if you listen to someone who has. Experience, awareness and common sense will always help, regardless of the methodology you choose for your project.

While the number of internet users continue to grow, the number of businesses using the internet as a tool has taken an exponential turn. The web is now recognized as being a real source of revenue and a competitive market where large and small companies sell their products. What does this mean for the web design/development industry?

New comers are attracted by the growth potential of this industry, the strength of its positive trend and its size. We see more and more competition among small web development/design companies while bigger and larger companies are entering this market offering a complete range of services. Those same companies have a strong financial basis, can afford massive advertising campaigns and develop tools that would take months or years to develop otherwise.

Does this mean the end of freelancers and small companies? To a certain extent, Yes! This industry is still growing and still requires a lot of available resources but large corporations have understood the potential of that market and are quickly adapting their tools and products to respond to a more and more professional demand. There is no doubt that it will become increasingly difficult to compete in such a market and that many freelancers and small 'one man' companies will close their shop.

To some extent we should see some restructuring in this industry as well as acquisitions and mergers. There are no other way for those who want to survive than thinking bigger and better. The time when those same large corporations were offering somewhat of a product at a somewhat good quality level are behind us. Today, the quality of services, tools and products offered are far more professional at a cheaper cost...

Glaring modern web site technologies

: Well, to soothe your brain muscles, lessen the wrinkling of your forehead and the frequency of troubled sleep, here are some web site technologies that you can bank on to effectively promote your business or company to your advantage. Client Side and Servers Side are the two kinds of technologies used in web sites. Client Side means that the processing of the technology is done in the web browser. Server Side, on the other hand, is done by the web server. Client Side technologies use HTML, XHTML and CSS in creating fabulous web sites which are similar to most of the sites you are enjoying now. HTML is short for Hyper Text Markup Language. A series of ‘tags’ is used in designing through HTML. This technology is used by labeling text so that the computer can understand what it means and what it wants. To accentuate a word, say to make the phrase ‘World Wide Web’ bold, the right tag is - World Wide Web. The result of which is this - World Wide Web. In order to come up with a whole site, series of apt tags is a requisite. HTML was created by Tim-Berners-Lee in the year 1990. Lee’s creation was acknowledged by the W3C or the World Wide Web Consortium. After HTML came XHTML. The latter is short for eXtended Hyper Text Markup Language. Experts in web design services are predicting that XHTML will constitute a big part of the World Wide Web’s future. The project of the W3C called “The Semantic Web” will be using more of XHTML as well as other latest technologies. This will bring about further modern anticipated changes. CSS is another essential web technology. Cascading Style Sheets or CSS was created by W3C. It is one of the most user-friendly technologies that show what the text is and how it should be displayed in the page. It directs designers on how to control documents and present them visually in different mediums. This is an example of how to use it - font-family:Arial, sans-serif. This is used to make the web browser use Arial font. If Arial is not available, then the default will be sans-serif font. To have a clearer grasp about web technologies such as HTML, XHTML and CSS, you can subscribe to online tutorials. If not, read some of the articles related to them. Make your web site design services functional and dynamic. Make it happen.

The basics of search engine placement and keyword selections

Article: "The basics of Search Engine Placement and Keyword Selections."

Steps in this article.

1 – Finding your target keywords and implementing them.

2 – Understanding where your site stands in the search engine world.

3 – Link exchanges, Outbound/Inbound links anchor text and Page Rank.

4 – Maintenance and Upkeep of your site and its search engine rankings.

It is very important to have a target when you are picking your target keywords. It’s a good idea for you to figure out what keywords are popular and which ones are not. If you are unsure go to Overture’s Keyword Selection tool and see what keywords are big and which are not, you might be surprised (http://inventory. overture. com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/). Make sure not to go after the highest keywords right away unless they are not popular. If they are too popular its almost impossible to get them right off the bat. I don’t mean to discourage you but you should have some realistic goals, especially if your website currently is not getting the best traffic.

Once you pick your target keywords it is important to adjust your site to match your keywords. This includes adding them or remaking your tag on your site. Do not let your site’s title exceed 75 characters, and make sure it makes sense and is not just a list of keywords.

Next, add these keywords to your site as links, alt tags, and regular text. Its also a good idea if you can near the top of your site place some of them in an H1-3 tag (). If you are unsure how many times your keywords should appear, check your competitors sites.

Understanding where you stand in the search engine world can be difficult. You need to understand that search engines today are a lot smarter then you think. For example, your Google page rank shows how “important” your site is and is really derived from your sites inbound/outbound link counts. You can have a high page rank and not hit any of the keywords you want, this is because of a few things we will discuss later. Your goal should not be a page rank value, page rank simply shows you what Google sees you as, based on the amount of sites linking to you and the amount of sites you link too. (To see your Google page rank you can download the Google toolbar for internet explorer, or go to a site like: http://www. pagerank. sc.

If you’ve got a low page rank, do not worry, page rank is not updated often, and you will probably only see it change a few times a year, but your actual page rank (not visible) can change, almost weekly, if not daily.

Link exchanges are one of the most important things to do to get yourself where you want to be. There are a few rules to follow though. You should never have more then 25 outgoing links per page, if you start getting close to the 25, create a 2nd page and put new links on there. Putting more then 25 on one page will start to penalize your search engine rankings. Make sure to use a good anchor text, if you already optimized your Title tag to have your keywords, you can just use that. Anchor text is the link text pointing to your site. If you are unsure how to setup a link page I recommend signing up for a Free Link Exchange Reciprocal Link Manager Tool at: http://www. MyLinking. com. Once you sign up, add your website, and create a links page, (make sure it uses a. php extension) and then copy and paste the required code to your site template at that page or a blank page, just make sure it’s the same filename as you specified with a. php extension.

Now, you can customize your MyLinking account to prohibit certain keywords or even require certain keywords, if you’ve got a specific theme to your site you can require keywords, this will ensure that the sites you link to will be in your general traffic interests.

It is very important to link with sites that have related content to you. Search engines rank you based on the keywords your link partners have on their site as well so take that into consideration.

So, make sure to use your keywords in your link exchange text, don’t let more then 25 outbound links per page (if you are using MyLinking you can set the max per page, and create as many pages as you want, and you should set it to 24 if you are using MyLinking because it links itself at the bottom, if you have any other external links on your site like banners that you will use take those into consideration when settings your max links. And make sure you are linking with related sites. You can add links or code through MyLinking admin area to exchange links with sites.

Maintenance and upkeep of your site is very important. You should always be hunting for more links. You should always be submitting to link directories. You can never have too many inbound links. If you don’t use MyLinking or a reciprocal link manager script you should check your link partners periodically to make sure they don’t drop you. MyLinking has options to recheck every 24 hours for such events and can even re crawl your link partner’s site to see if your link has moved, etc… Make sure to stay on top of changes your competitors make, if they drop out and a new top place ranker has moved in, take not of their keyword densities, etc.. You should ALWAYS try to link to same link partner’s your competitors link to. You can see these sites by using google or yahoo and searching for: link:http://www. competitorsdomain. com (Yahoo is more complete, Google likes to hide a lot of these).

Once you get all of these down you will begin to hit a decent page rank, it can take up to 20 incoming links before your actual PR hits a PR2 or 3. (Actual PR is not visible PR as explained earlier).

Php and mysql programming security

Choosing php and mysql as programming language for a website is not enough. With open source coding being one of the inherent properties of php mysql development, securing your codes becomes essential. So when one allows the users to upload files on the website, then security is definitely at stake.

PHP Programming Protection

While it is not entirely possible to protect your site, yet there are few precautions that you can incorporate for better protection of PHP programming. Some of these are:

• You should check the referrer, for being sure that the information sent is from your website and not an outside source. Since, there are maximum chances of the information being fake.

• Restriction of the type of extension files being uploaded on the website is yet another method of security check.

• Renaming files is another way in which the program can be secured. This procedure involves the checking of double-barreld extensions like yourfile. php. gif.

• Changing the permission command for the upload folder so that files within it are not executable.

• All the alterations created by the user should be allowed only when they ‘Login’ into the database. On the other hand the owner of the site should always keep a close watch on all files being uploaded and then make them live.

Mysql Programming Security

Another aspect in php and mysql web development is the protection of the mysql libraries. Therefore, the most important aspect involved in protecting the mysql program is the security of the entire server host.

Securing MySQL is very essential for the smooth running of the website. This is based on Access Control Lists and SSL-encrypted connections, for protecting the php mysql web development program from random users visiting the website.

Some of the vital things to be considered for online site protection are:

• Accessing of the mysql database should not be allowed for any and everyone.

• Privileges to the users should always be accompanied with some restriction. If one can easily connect to the server without any ‘login’ then the security level code of the MySQL server should be rechecked.

• The MySQL database should be void of plain-text passwords. Use programs like MD5 (), SHA1(), or some hashing function for complete protection.

• Do not choose passwords from dictionaries, since they can be hacked easily. Use programs that break the passwords.

Therefore, the successful development of a website through php and mysql web development is complete only when the site owner consults a professional programmer. They expertise in the optimization of the MySql hosting database. This program is dynamic in nature and is an effective tool in the creation of browser-based applications.

Uninterruptible power supplies - epo operations

EPO (Emergency Power Off), this feature on UPS systems can cause many problems to the smooth running of the power protection installation.

The primary reason for having this feature is to enable the UPS system to be 'made safe' in the event of an emergency. Operation of the Emergency Power Off will, with most uninterruptible power supplies, stop the inverter and rectifier (charger) and disconnect the battery. Due to the economics of size and cost, in a number of cases operation of the EPO circuit may just stop the inverter.

A typical example of a situation when there is a need to remove power to equipment in an emergency situation is in the case of fire. An un-interruptible power supply by its very name means that when the building is isolated it will continue to provide an output until the batteries are exhausted. The continued supply of power in these situations can lead to additional fires as cables are damaged by the original cause. The EPO in this situation is often connected to the fire alarm panel and will operate on the second and subsequent detection of fire within a defined area.

One of the major problems with Emergency Power Off circuits is that when they are originally installed everyone understands the concept and requirements to reset the circuit and restore the UPS system to normal operation. However as the years pass this knowledge is forgotten and when the UPS system suddenly stops for no reason it can take considerable time to identify the circuit that is causing the problem.

In effect, your un-interruptible power supplies suddenly are no longer uninterruptible once the EPO has been activated.

You must be very careful where the EPO is positioned, to avoid accidental or malicious use. Certainly each EPO needs to be monitored and covered y CCTV at the very least.

When the service engineer is called to site, they are looking for a failure within the UPS system, not normally the external circuits and re-establishing power to the load can take longer than expected.

Further problems with EPO circuits can be caused during the original installation of the UPS system where the designer, trying to make the operation of the EPO more secure may also connect the under-voltage trips of circuit breakers supplying the UPS system. This can make the service engineer's task even more daunting as there are normally few circuit diagrams available at the time of the incident and considerable time can be lost in tracing the circuits to restore supply to the load. Typically, in spite of any perceived problems with the UPS system at this time, the circuit to the maintenance bypass is not available either as it has tripped due to the operation of the EPO circuit so power can still not be restored to the load.

To assist with rapid restoration of supply to the load at the time of installation a laminated circuit diagram attached to the UPS system showing the circuit breakers feeding the UPS system, the load and their locations. In addition the operation of the EPO circuit should also be shown.

When it comes to iPhone tips and tricks, one of the best involves how you can make the low ringer on the iPhone louder. This is important because in fact one of the most common complaints about the iPhone is that it has such a low ringer volume. If you are one of the many people who finds this to be a problem, then at least there are iPhone tips and tricks you can use to do something about it.

You can easily resolve this issue by using a custom ringtone rather than those already available on the device, and make sure that the ringtone you choose is a loud, high frequency audio.

Another great tip involves how you can watch Google videos over your iPhone, and the process required here is incredibly easy as well. Since the iPhone’s Safari browser did not support Flash, the Apple Company therefore had to come up with a new application for the device which would allow streaming video to play on it, and yet it does not work on Apple’s new application.

You can however find various YouTube videos that give you step by step guides of the trick that is required to watch Google videos right from your iPhone.

Another of the best iPhone tips and tricks involves streaming audio from your iPhone to your Bluetooth headset. This is another important issue because many people were very disappointed when they learned that Bluetooth’s A2DP profile was not included in the iPhone feature list. In order to use Bluetooth, the device must be compatible with certain Bluetooth profiles.

To achieve this you will need to pair a Bluetooth headset with your iPhone, switch on the headset so that it can perform the handshake with the iPhone, and once you have done this you will need to go into the Visual Voicemail screen and tap the Audio button in the upper right hand corner. You will then receive an audio selection dialog, from which you select the Headset option, and then you switch over to the iPod and begin playing your music or video.

There are many other really great iPhone tips and tricks that you can use as well, all of which are really great because they allow you to get even more out of your iPhone device. http://www. the-iphone. biz

There are some very basic design principles that are important to know whether you’re a graphic designer, web designer, or even a photographer. Certain very basic design principles apply to all artistic fields and are necessary for the artist and valuable information for the consumer.

Line (s)

The world we live in is three dimensional but when we try to represent that world in art we use lines, a very simplistic way of trying to represent the three dimensional world around us. But by knowing how to use lines in art we can make a very good sometimes great representations of the world around us.

Lines of Direction

Horizontal, a horizontal line usually represents a feeling of rest or relaxation, think of a puppy asleep on the floor. That is a horizontal line. Stability is also conveyed through a horizontal line, think of a table or a large building.

Vertical, a vertical line usually brings to mind strength and sometimes action. Think of a tall tree, its strong vertical line shows strength. A vertical line can show action especially when it’s compared to a horizontal line.

Diagonal, a diagonal line always suggests movement. Imagine a football player running if you draw a line from the top of his head to his heel you will see a diagonal line. Diagonal lines always get our attention for the action they imply.

Curved, a curved line can suggest many things. The curved line of a sagging roof can indicate weakness and a curved line of a dancers arm can indicate gracefulness.

Remember lines convey thoughts and feelings and every line you use in your design helps to convey your message.

Shape (s)

Lines form shapes and from those shapes we get positive and negative shapes, or spaces.

Positive shapes are always the objects in an image or design. It’s important to pay attention to your positive shapes their size, placement, and their balance in reference to:

Negative shapes, these are always the shape formed from the space around your object.

By paying attention to the balance of your positive and negative shapes you can make sure that your designs or images have good balance.

Discrete vs. process in erp

One of the saddest things is a manufacturer who chooses an ERP software system that does not a fit with what they do. For example, a chemical producer who selects and implements software designed for a type of company which manufactures solid objects such as furniture. There once was a company that provided consumer packaged goods to the convenience marketplace who selected fish disassembly software. These are obvious mismatches. But the specifics may not be clear.

There are two types of manufacturing. There is discrete manufacturing, or a company that assembles products from widgets. There is also process manufacturing, or companies that blend liquids. Process manufacturing companies process formulas or recipes. While the majority of manufacturing is discrete (automotive, aerospace, or anyone else who builds component parts), there are a select group of manufacturers who are process manufacturers. These include food processors, cosmetics, chemical producers, paints and coatings manufacturers, and anyone else who deal with liquid or batch produced products.

What makes process manufacturing different from discrete? Process manufacturing uses formulations or recipes. A discrete manufacturer uses Bills of Materials (BOMs). A discrete manufacturer assembles along a routing, whereas a process manufacturer blends in a batch.

There are companies who operate in both environments and are often called mixed mode manufacturers. These manufacturers need both a process and discrete manufacturing system.

So what sort of ERP system works with these types of manufacturing modes? This can only be answered by looking at the markets these software companies serve. There are certain products which are clearly process, such as BatchMaster Software or Ross Software. These software deal with formulations, batching, and the other specific issues around process manufacturing. There are other software systems that are clearly discrete such as DBA Software, Intuitive, or Made2manage. These handle Bills of Materials, Routings, and specific discrete requirements. These are all systems that serve their niche.

When you get into larger systems, there is not a clear cut solution as they operate in Mixed-Mode. For example QAD software can handle both discrete and process requirements. Others that can do the same are MS Dynamics AX, Deacom, Ramco, and of course the Tier 1 players SAP and Oracle.

So the real lesson is to understand what you do first before looking at software. Are you a processor of liquids, or do you assemble individual items to create an assembled product? Knowing this will go a long way to help you properly choose software that fits you like a glove.

Why use virtual dedicated web hosting

Most webmasters on the net today are familiar with what the industry calls "shared" web hosting accounts. A shared hosting account is where you rent a small amount of space on a server which is shared among many other users.

This is a cheap way to get started online but it has many disadvantages - you will encounter email delivery problems because of spam complaints against other sites on the same server. You will find your site's grinding to a halt when someone else does some heavy database work on your server. You might even find your site going down because of a denial of service attack against someone else hosting hacking or piracy related material on your server (these type of sites attract antisocial elements!)

How can you avoid all of this drama?

By upgrading to a virtual dedicated server. A virtual dedicated server lets you run your sites as if you had your own "dedicated" server, except it is cheaper because you are really just using part of a server that has been split into multiple virtual dedicated servers.

You can find out more about this by searching Google for "virtual dedicated hosting". Virtuozzo is the main commercial software that web hosts use to run virtual hosting services.

You will find virtual dedicated server accounts starting at just $30 a month. You'll get a much larger chunk of bandwidth compared to shared hosting, and none of the problems that go with a shared host. You can also get multiple IP addresses that are exclusive to your sites.

So what's the catch? Not much. You'll probably spend a bit more on hosting each month. The main disadvantage of upgrading to virtual dedicated hosting is that you will need to be more technically proficient so that you can administer the server.

This requires a bit of time learning the necessary Linux skills to make sure your server runs smoothly.

Many hosting providers will have a "premium" support offering that includes a bit more hand holding - this is definitely recommended if you don't have much experience with Linux, or are new to virtual dedicated hosting.

With the increased speed and bandwidth that a virtual dedicated host offers, and none of the shared hosting headaches, the move is one you will never regret. So, the question now becomes, are to ready and willing to take-on the challenge of virtual dedicated web hosting and save yourself some hard earned cash? The choice is your...

The 7 cardinal sins of buying voip

For most companies and many individuals, signing up with a VOIP service is a no brainer.

For a fraction of what most people pay for a tradional telephone service, you can have a feature rich communications sytem.

But there are a few pitfalls that people fall into time and again. Make sure you aren't one of them.

1) Missing Out on the Best Deal - So you know that you can make a big saving by switching from your traditional phone carrier to a VOIP service. But did you know that you can also make a huge saving again by shopping around? Some VOIP companies are up to 50% cheaper than others that offer similar featured packages.

2) Taking the Cheapest Without Looking - VOIP beats tradition networks in so many ways. Why not make sure that you have a feature rich package? Again, you need to compare features between companies!

3) Going With the Biggest Names - If you follow the VOIP scene, you will know that some of the biggest names in VOIP have had serious system outages. Make sure your carrier has a history of reliability because you don't want to be caught without a phone service!

4) Low bandwidth - Make sure that you discuss your WAN service provider to make sure you have enough bandwidth for VOIP. This is really important for heavy users such as businesses and call centers.

5) IP Phones - Poor quality hardware (IP Phones) can really reduce your user experience. Don't buy the cheapest phone you can find, because you will be disappointed at your call quality.

6) Configure Your Firewall - A lot of people get frustrated when their new VOIP service doesn't work. You need to check your firewall settings to ensure your VOIP service can operate!

7) Ignore Security - A VOIP conversation is data like any other data. It can be stolen and misused (ie. people can listen to your conversations). Make sure you are aware of the problems by asking your vendor and consider encryption to protect your data.

VOIP opens up a massive potential cost saving to home and business users. It can be as secure and high quality as traditional lines, if you take a little time to research and make the right purchasing decisions.

Learning how to delete spyware

In this age of computers, we have entered an age of convenience like no other; able to work, communicate, shop, and be entertained from the comfort of our own home. But just like anything else that brings great benefits, there is a trade-off. Just as there are those companies that have used the computer to offer an array of reputable services and products, there are also disreputable companies that take advantage of people using the computer. Before you know it you have been targeted and the nightmare begins. One such popular software that is used to target computer users is spyware. And learning to delete spyware first depends on understanding spyware.

Spyware is a software that infiltrates your computer and captures your personal information – whether it’s your name, address, phone number, or even your credit card number. It tracks the places you visit on the computer, the things in which you are interested, and the products for which you shop. It then passes on this vital information to third parties who use it to specifically target you for advertising – or a host of unscrupulous purposes. It is for these reasons that the ability to delete spyware as soon as you expect its existence on your computer is so important.

Unfortunately, it is not so easy to know if you do indeed have spyware lurking on your computer. Some of the signs that spyware may be at work are if your computer is running particularly slow or crashing frequently. If you do suspect the existence of spyware you can purchase software that will scan and delete spyware from your system.

It is most important to delete spyware through reputable and effective resources. Simply downloading free software from the Internet in an effort to delete spyware may, in fact, do more harm than good. Many of those free downloads are actually spyware in disguise; you may think that you are eliminating spyware but you are instead letting it in right through the front door.

In most cases, it is worth the price to pay for reputable software that will periodically scan and delete spyware from the computer. You can find such software at most computer supply stores where employees can find what you need.

But the best to protect your computer and the information located therein is to practice prevention. Be mindful of where you visit on the computer and only download files from those sources that you know and trust. In this way you can be sure that you won’t be in a position to have to delete spyware in the future.
